*****CHRISTMAS PICKS***UNBROKEN*****

I just finished this incredible book….UNBROKEN….written by Laura Hillenbrand. A true story about Louis Zamperini, a WWII veteran who was a Japanese prisoner of war for over two years. This is a book for your husbands, boyfriends, sons and daughters to read. It is a book all of you should read. It is truly inspiring and an incredible story. The book has been made into a movie directed by Angelina Jolie. If it is half as good as the book…..it would be an fabulous movie. Reading the book opened my eyes to so much I didn’t know about what went on in the Pacific during the war……Actually, I don’t think you should wait to give this as a Christmas present…..I think it would be the most appropriate present to give your Thanksgiving guests……..We all have so much to be thankful for, and to thank all of the Vets past and present for their sacrifice……………Happy Thanksgiving everyone!……much Love…….Louis

Happy holidays! Any chance # A260034 will be restocked before Christmas? Patiently waiting for their return. Best.

Nothing is being restocked before Christmas. The only thing new will be three jewelry items in Dec.

Dear Joanne, I spoke too soon….Yes these have been reordered to fill wait list and some extra, but not many extra. If you can still get on wait list you should. Those will be the first orders filled. I’m not sure of the exact date, but I will, find out ASAP.

Good news. Have been on the waitlist, since I missed them by a minute. Will keep my eye peeled for the jewelry items. Thank you for the chicest essentails.

The most recent “AARP” magazine features an article on Louis Zamperini and “Unbroken.” His life is now receiving its well-deserved attention (and, indirectly, so are all the other Pacific Theater bombardiers.)

I have it on reserve at the library.

Lauren Hilldebrand is also a true heroine. She has one of the most serious disabling cases of chronic fatigue syndrome I’ve heard about. She nearly went blind writing “Seabiscut. I hope her health as improved, I haven’t heard much about her lately.

She was bedridden when she wrote “Seabiscut” and couldn’t even attend the honors she got for it.

    Hello Louis,

I am glad you enjoyed UNBROKEN. My ladies book club read this book about two years ago as our first selection. As we convened to discuss the book after everyone finished it, one of the ladies said to me as I suggested this book, ” Okay Amy, you have really set the bar with this book.” We all loved the book, still talk about when we gather for other book club discussions and plan to see the movie when it is released. Can’t wait. Aside from The Bible, UNBROKEN is my favorite book ever! So powerful! Blessings to you and Jac for a warm and lovely Thanksgiving.

I have read Unbroken – a fabulous read. While on a recent trip to Austin, we took a side trip to visit the National Museum of the Pacific War located in Fredericksburg, TX, home of Fleet Admiral Nimitz who served as Commander in Chief in the Pacific during WWII. It is an incredible place (had no idea such a museum existed) and such a learning experience. I wish all high school students could visit such a place.
Louis, I am loving my new purchases and look forward to your new shows.

    Louis
Thankyou for the suggestion.! Sounds fabulous!
    I am getting 3 copies.
One for my husband and two for both sons in their 40’s.
My father was in the navy and was on the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor.
    He survived.
The true stories he told of what went on brought me to tears every time he
    told of them.
He and I were to go to Pearl Harbor last year on December 7th.
He passed away last year a month before we were to make the father daughter trip.
I still have pictures he drew(he was an excellent artist) of things he saw and experienced
and I cgerish them all.I plan to hand them down to my sons.
Thankyou again for the Title of this book. They will live it.

      Sorry for the typo’s.
Those pesky watery eyes got in the way.

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Shari, thank you for sharing your story with us. I’m sure your fathers stories were riveting . I hope you have written them down, and share them with your sons. Those stories shouldn’t be lost, and sketches! You should try to get it published, what a treasure.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can’t put it down. Fabulous book.

Laura Hillenbrand writes nonfiction in the simplest, most compelling way. She also wrote Seabiscuit, which is also very compelling and historical. She really makes you feel like you know these people and understand their times.

The Railway Man is a movie about this exact subject, and what happens when a former prisoner of war finds the Japanese officer who captured him. Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman do an awesome job portraying the struggle to regain normal lives.

Thanks for the suggestion Louis. Today I bought a copy for our new grandson-in-law who is in the USN stationed on the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego. I want to get one for my Kindle too.

Awesome book. Hope movie is half as good.

My book club read it when it first came out. We were in awe about the events and trully admired this great man.

Excellent book which I read when it first came out. My mother’s only sibling was a bombardier on a B-24 Liberator in that same area around that same time period. On Dec. 1, 1943 during a bombing raid his plane vanished over Mille Island. Either the Japanese took them out or the plane crashed in the ocean. I have the declassified report and was able to show it to my mother before she passed away at age ninety ironically on Dec. 1, 2008. Another book which I recommend is Finish Forty and Home by Phil Scearce, which has a photo of my uncle in it as well as a little information I shared with Phil. Both are great books which tell of the courage of our servicemen and which are very inspiring!

Louis, I have had the privilege of speaking with a true American hero recently, and his heroes were the aviators in the Pacific during World War II. I understand from an article on Angelina Jolie in the latest issue of “Vanity Fair” that she was at Louis Zamperini’s bedside during his final days. Jolie loved him like a father, it seems, and deeply appreciated his special brand of tenacity. He was a man of faith, she stated, and that he looked forward to being reunited with all his loved ones when he passed. That article and your urging have moved me to read “Unbroken.”

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

It is an incredible story. I had no idea what went on, and that is the shame of it. After reading his entire experience I don’t think I would have lasted a day. He was a true American hero in every sense of the word.

I have read UNBROKEN also, Louis, and my take is the same as yours. How could those servicemen have lived through the things they had to endure? It was an awesome read and a shocking eye-opener! Every American should know what these brave young men went through!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

I’m giving the book to my brothers. I know they will appreciate the story and more importantly the man.
