“MAY SNEAK PEEK #3”

May Sneak Peek #3 is my A224713, FLORAL PRAIRIE SKIRT. There are many many floral prints out there this season, but this, as far as I’m concerned, is the absolute prettiest. It comes from my ARCHIVES, and I originally purchased it in Italy. The colors are CORAL,Β  NAVY and TURQUOISE. Each coloration is totally different which makes each skirt unique. The fabric is exactly like my BOHO….with the crinkle georgette and the full liner in the knit. I keep going back to this fabric combination because, IMHO, there is nothing better. It is comfortable in the hottest conditions….easy to care for and is great to travel with. The skirt has a full elastic waist so what ever size you order in the Boho….order the same in this skirt. This is a MAXI skirt so the length is 35 1/2 inches. For some it will need to be shortened…….there are TWO ways to shorten this skirt and any seamstress or tailor can do it. The first way is from the top which will leave the two bottom ruffles undisturbed. The second way….is from the bottom. The bottom ruffle is approx. 9 inches long. You can shorten it any amount you need to. DO NOT WORRY about it looking strange. If all you have left of the bottom ruffle is 1 toΒ  2 inches it will look like a trim. It really doesn’t matter if you have a 3, 4, or 5 inch bottom ruffle….it will just look like it was meant to be that way…..who is going to know?? It will be fine!! There are so many colors in each print that picking a top will be easy. All of the above tanks are Linea…the navy is the A221977….I told all of you in Jan when it was first presented it was going to be an important piece going forward…..but….if you don’t have or can’t get any of the above do not worry…..my next sneak peek will take care of that………….

I think you will truly enjoy wearing this skirt and bringing a smile to everyone’s face who sees you in it………..they just won’t be able to help themselves…..it’s that kind of print………Enjoy, much Love, Louis

!!! SUCH a beautiful print! all 3 will be on their way to me … If I took off the entire bottom layer it seems it might resemble the two tiered skirt?? what do you think? would you be mortified? πŸ™‚ and if I were to take the bottom layer off, any suggestions?? thank you and xo to Jac!!!

      Dear Amy,
The solid two tiered skirt is 24 inches. The long floral skirt with the bottom tier removed would give you a 27 inch skirt. It would be a more mid to lower calf length depending on your height. I would not be mortified at all…I think this skirt would look good at any length. Even if both ruffles were removed it would still make a pretty short skirt, but I would prefer it to have at least one of the flounces………Louis

    Dear Louis,

Back with another question: Do you think the recent Pebble Crepe Boatneck Tunic in Navy would match the background of this Prairie Skirt and work with it, or another combination such as the Aqua Tunic with one of the skirts although the aqua blues don’t look right to me on the computer? I have that Tunic in all colors and a spare in Navy … oh, if it’s reordered, how about a Lime and a Coral color tunic … just thinking out loud …

Interesting question……the aqua does not work for me. The navy top is darker than the skirt, and since it is a very cloudy, overcast day I ‘m not totally sure if the navies are the same caste. For me, that is less important than the proportion of the two together and mixing those two particular fabrics. It really depends on you. They are an off beat combination, but on some it will work on others it would be terrible. Attitude and the way you wear them and how you accessorize the outfit will make all the difference. Again,or me, this outfit would require flat sandals or wedges…….hope that helps…..Louis

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I’m not the most adventurous about Mixing and matching, so I’ll find something else to wear with whichever color/colors come home to me. First off I’ll have to shorten, and then figure out the proportions to choose a top; very good point!

        Much appreciated, Cathy in PA

What beautiful prints this skirt is made with.. it makes it very very hard to choose just one!

I’m curious to know if your Silk Washable Scoopneck blouse {A89796} would look well with this skirt in the Turquoise? I have the blouse in the Turq and the Lime ( I think those are the color names) It may be too much since the skirt is not slim but I’m already looking to see what I have that will work.
Thanks again for such wonderful clothes!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      Dear Nancy,
I loved those blouses and I’m glad you have them….unfortunately I no longer have the samples so I do not know if the colors will work but they just might. As far as wearing the two together , absolutely you could wear the blouse and print skirt together.

Great idea Nancy, I have both of those, too! I love them. They brighten up my day, and the hand of the silk is wonderful.

        Dear Louis,

Thanks for your imput. I’ll just have to take the chance and order that turquoise skirt.. it is too beautiful to pass as far as I’m concerned!

        Thanks for your quick reply!

    Dear Louis,

These skirts are just beautiful. I lean toward the coral, but the turqoise is tugging at my heart as well. In the late 60’s my father took us to Japan and I got a kimono in a floral print(much smaller scale) with a turqoise background and all the colors are so similar to yours, I am amazed! I’m looking forward to the 11th!

    Love

Welcome back! I’m so looking forward to your upcoming shows. The new floral skirt is beautiful! Another one for my collection, I love wearing skirts in summer.
I wasn’t able to get the navy top so I will be eagerly looking forward to further sneak peaks (I’m hoping for a navy top!).
The lace jacket in navy would be fabulous, I’d prefer it over black, but I don’t make the decisions!!
Thank you for all that you do for us.
    Regards
    Judi

    Hi Louis.

    Welcome home!

I just want to say it is like you are designing just for me this season! Thank you for the styles that speak to my soul & make me look & feel like a million!

Could this be pulled up & worn belted (like a dress) with a cardigan over it? πŸ™‚

I think so…..you would have to try it to see if you feel secure enough with the elastic not slipping down, but I think it will work.

“April showers, bring May flowers”…and what a beautiful bunch this is.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

YES….they work beautifully. The limeade is a little softer than the lime tank in the picture.

  8. Cathy

    Dear Louis,

Oh, this skirt is so pretty πŸ™‚ I’m leaning toward the coral and/or navy. I will have to shorten of course; but that’s easy and lots of options on which way to do. It will be my first “Boho”, as I’ve always been nervous about that knit lining being too hot … but how could I resist these lovely flowers ?

Can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeves …. especially those July and early fall hints … I WANT to see those colors … in a LIVE SHOW … back to letter writing πŸ˜‰

Thanks to you and Jac for all you do; it’s not just about clothes; it’s about making our lives better, easier AND prettier πŸ™‚

Kathy you MUST read the comments on the Boho skirt. The skirt isn’t warm at all even with the knit lining. That is one of the main reasons it has been such a success….because it is light as a feather. Women who live in the hottest parts of the country love it for that very reason.

      1. Cathy

Oh, I think I’ve read every word on those forums and reviews by now, and added a few of my own … I can certainly see the Boho is extremely successful … I just am a bit “temperature sensitive” to some of the poly knits and spandex, while others, and most of yours, aren”t an issue …

I’m going to try these beautiful flowers in Navy and/or Coral πŸ™‚

        Thanks! Cathy in PA

P.S. It was fun to drive past Bryant Park yesterday and think to myself “and I’m wearing my OWN designer outfit today, from my own personal designer” LOL … special thanks for the Navy Windowpane Jacket and Navy Cuffed Crop Pant, so perfect.

What beautiful outfits, thank you. It will be hard to choose a color, although I lean towards coral. I’m excited about the prospect of a yellow tank. It will look great with the navy blazer. Keeping my fingers crossed. Welcome back! That was one fast trip! Thanks for posting sneak peaks so soon!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear upallnight….just so you are aware the yellow tank is old Linea…..and not available. I will be showing the yellow crinkle georgette top with the skirt in the show and that is avail on line.

Louis, As usual you give me heart palpitations…Will the limeade tank work with the turquoise?
