Louis, I am late in discovering your blog. Just as Julia Roberts said in “Pretty Woman” to the sales person who refused to wait on her QVC made a “big mistake”. I have purchased your clothing since you and Donna Karen were at Anne Klein. Your style was impeccable, the fabrics rich. I still have jackets that you designed. They are still impeccable and timeless. I have a closet full of jackets, blouses and jewelry from Linea. Had so hoped that you would transition to on line sales but when you said your manufacturer was closing I knew that would be difficult. Have already purchased many of the remaining pieces from QVC and from Ebay. Will miss your impeccable taste. Wishing you peace and health always.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Jan….the wonderful thing about my Blog is that you can always go back in time and look at all of my posts at your leisure. Many women have done that looking for a collage where I posted garments from the collections over the years…..so you “mistake” isn’t a mistake at all.

  2. Ann Kearns

    Hello Louis,
I was a learner and I remember very clearly listening to your words on the process while partaking of Giovanna’s remarkable 4 cheese pasta with a salad warm from the garden dressed with the first pressing of olives from their grove, dining under the gracious warm direction of Marcello. I was a shadow presence, not memorable but present and alert. Learning from you, from Mary Ann, from Flippo, from the Ciampinis. Lessons that made my love of knit secure and open to the adventure of experiment and fearless attitude toward the limitless creativity of possibilities. Dinner was always capped with a nip from Mr. Pestelli’s private grappa brew, the fire that burned what I learned into my memory bank and was acknowledged by everyone as an excellent chrome cleaner as well as aperitif.

Because of those memorable moments, I am confident you will appreciate what we are trying to accomplish and honor us with the addition of your advice and guidance on our Board of Advisors. FULLNEEDLE COLLABORATIVE is a forward thinking venture in domestic knitting where full service from design to sourcing raw material to trim to technical collaboration to finished product will become a reality and be the norm.

I would be honored to share the details of what we are trying to accomplish and seek the benefit your advice on refinements to our plan.

      1. Ann Kearns

        Dear Louis,

Yours would be a significant contribution as a reliable sounding board. As we refine and define our services and outline the parameters of our collaborative intention, it is vital we have the insight and input of an advisor who fully understands how the process works from blue sky concept to reality.

The FULLNEEDLE COLLABORATIVE is intended to offer the full service we, myself, Richard and Patty, were accustomed to in Italy, in Hong Kong, in China, in South Korea in just about any place in the world we found ourselves making sweaters. We worked with the better factories that were once on the West Coast, SF Knitting, Cheyo, Nova, Andari, Lucas all of whom were on board with the full service concept. With the exception of Andari they are all gone to be replaced by domestic knitters who only want to do the ordinary and prefer it if you pick from a sample range they put together under the guise of “on demand” or quick turn or whatever buzz word you want to put to it.

We want to do it all: assist with the design when needed, provide the tech side, work on stitch, figure out new takes on body shape, explore innovative raw material options as they are created, and discover the far reaches of an imagination set loose in an environment that encourages originality and thrives on the aha moments that emerge from the challenges of creative development.

We know you cant be all things to all people and have no intention of trying to compete in market areas that reach the excesses of high volume and cheap price. We can however offer an opportunity for retailers to do short runs to test product, offer viable replenishment inventory control programs and provide the private label customer with fresh takes on trend specific to their markets. We know we can provide the knit expertise often missing in house and we know the knit component of a collection can often take the lions share of profit when the season hits the bottom line. We are confident we can be the perpetual, confidential knit consultancy that will deliver what becomes an actual part of a collection over being just a second thought accessory.

And we want to knit it here. Be competitive with off-shore not only in price but in service.

You know how you can get so close to a concept that you sometimes cant see where it needs fixing. We are so deep into what we want to do and into visualizing how it will work we need the resonance of a knowledgeable voice of reason. And that’s what we would want from you.

So your contribution would be to provide us with the sagacity of a “been there done that” level of experience. If we could pass in front of you our plan and you could pick it apart, question it, and, shake loose what needs to be shaken loose it would be an invaluable help. We value your advice, respect the scope of your experience and would be honored to be able to seek and receive your advice.

Hope this opens the curiosity door.

    1. Ann Kearns

Got it. Sending Giovanna a catch up mail. Bless you for passing the connection along. I think of the Ciampinis often and am delighted to reconnect. Thank you.

      1. Anonymous

Got a wonderful mail from Giovanna and was happy to hear she, Marcello and the boys (no longer) were all well and safe. What an absolute joy the reconnection is and my many thanks to you for making it possible.
Have you any thoughts or questions about being an advisor/sounding board for FULLNEEDLE COLLABORATIVE. I know you would make a well reasoned, seasoned and valuable contribution.
        Warm regards, Ann

        1. Ann Kearns

          Hello Louis,

This was no tintended to be anonymous. So just a quick up date .

            1. Ann Kearns

              Hello Louis,
Hit the send button before I entered my email on notice that I had heard from Giovanna and was grateful that you were the instrument of our reconnection. Additionally, I was inquiring if you had any further thoughts about discussing what we are trying to accomplish with FULLNEEDLE COLLABORATIVE. Your contribution as a sounding board would be invaluable. Would welcome the opportunity to discuss with you.
              Ann

            2. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Anne. I have given your request a lot of thought, but it’s not something I am interested in doin. I do appreciate you asking, but I feel I have been out of that business too long.

  3. Donna from California

    Hi Louis,
You showed A391008, the midnight navy moss crepe ruffle cardigan with the vintage white wing collar cotton shirt and distressed bootcut jeans. My question: What color shoes would look well with this outfit? Thanks for your advice. BTW- I loved the look of that outfit.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Donna….Since you live in Cal. there are different options…If it’s warm and you want to wear a wedge or a banded sandal [preferably with a platform of any height] you can go with a dark navy if you can find one, or some blue that blends into the jean. For fun you could go with a red wedge or a bright color. If all else fails black will always work. With boot cut jeans I like a shoe boot. With the ruffle jacket a sleek shoe boot with a heel. It could be a tea cup or higher. Color wise, black or navy. A color could work but know it will take attention from the outfit. That’s why a color open toe wedge works, because there isn’t too much of it showing. BTW, this was one of my favorite looks. I loved mixing the ruffles with jeans a a white cotton shirt!

      1. Donna from California

Thanks for your response Louis. You always give me such good perspective. I’m attending my 60 year high school reunion. It will be in late October, but it will probably still be in the 80’s or high 70’s. It is a luncheon on a Sunday afternoon and the location is nothing special. Overall not too exciting, but I will get to spend a couple of days with my closest girlfriend of 60 years and that makes it worthwhile. My daughter disagrees about wearing jeans for this occasion. I have plenty of Linea to choose from what do you think?

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Donna, I think I have to agree with your daughter. Slim or wide leg black pants , even white, with a sandal will look more special. 60 years is a special occasion.

          1. Donna from California

            Will do. Thanks Louis.

    2. Cindy B.

Thank-you for your post, Donna! I went back and checked out the look of the outfit that you mentioned and was so glad that I did! I really like that outfit too, but had forgotten about it. I immediately ordered an XS in the navy and found that there are only 2 more XS sizes left, so I lucked out today!!
I live on the central coast of California, so the cardigan is a perfect weight for most of the year.

Thanks again, Donna, and Louis for your expertise!!

  4. Marie

    Louis,
I saw your posting on FB about your beloved dog and the mysterious corn cob lodged in her digestive system. My former neighbor used to buy dried corn cobs, with the kernels on them. She put them out for the squirrels. They were hard as a rock. I could not understand why I was finding corn cobs all around my property. It made no sense until she told me she was putting them out. It didn’t occur to me at the time how they could harm a dog. Sometimes the kernels were all eaten off the cob and other times they were partially eaten. I no longer had any dogs when she did that. But if I had, I am sure I would have had a similar experience to what you had with your dog. This could be what happened at your house if you have any squirrels, or other animals, somebody in the area might be feeding. I’m glad she is on the mend!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Marie, at this point anything is a possibility. I can say my neighbors on either side of me are elderly and do not decorate their homes with anything.

  5. Susan (aka CarlyTwila)

    Louis! A fashion question 🙋‍♀️…..
I have an outdoor wedding coming up this weekend and have been digging through my closets and the blog for ideas. The weather will start in the 80’s and go down to 70, so I have been honing in on fall transition pieces. I am thinking the celadon draped chemise with celadon jewelry would be nice. I think I should probably have something for my shoulders and cannot figure out what would be best. The lace jacket? The short bolero you did years ago, perhaps shop and purchase a metallic wrap? I have most of your pieces! It is just a matter of finding them amongst 4 different rooms! Does anything come to mind? My other choice is a short sleeved sweater knit dress with beading at the top and exposed zipper in either navy (silver beading) or black (gold beading). Which do you think might be best for this time of year? Thanks in advance for your brain power!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Susan, they are both good choices. If it’s humid I’d go with the celadon and some sort of wrap if needed. I don’t remember the yarn of the other dress? Really either one will be good. See what your mood is that day.

      1. Susan (aka CarlyTwila)

Thank you! It will be humid so the celadon dress is it! Now – I searched for a wrap and found a silky pashmina in 50 colors on Amazon! I don’t dare try to match! What color would you go for? (Camel, gold, dk brown, teal, ivory, black are some of the choices – or a complete colorful contrast?? )

      2. Susan

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Susan, I would go with the ivory which would probably blend better with the dress and jewelry. You can always wear it with everything any season. If it’s that hot and humid you probably won’t need it anyway but you can always wear it over one shoulder.

          1. Susan

You are a saint for the quick reply! Ivory is ordered! Thank you so much!

  6. Patricia Y.

Louis, While you’re off on your dream safari I’ thought about your friend & house sitter, Joe, during the recent torrential downpour. I hope your home has come away unscathed. Looking forward to your “Tales of Africa.”

    1. Toni Thompson

      Dear Louis,
For some reason, I could not write a comment so I am replying to the person above. I just found this blog as I was trying to purchase one of your beautiful Fall /winter jackets. I am HEARTSICK after reading your blog that you lost your spouse in addition to retiring. What a loss for the fashion industry and especially QVC. NO ONE makes clothes like you that are affordable. Your jackets were always the most gorgeous and the detail was perfect in every way. I will follow you now on your blog and I see you are making a trip to Africa. I am so sorry about your dear wife and am sending you love and many prayers. I wish you the very best.

  7. Donna from California

    Louis,
Have a fabulous and safe trip! I’m living vicariously through your safari adventure.
    Hugs!

  8. Judi

Best wishes for a safe and happy adventure! We can’t wait to hear the details of the wonderful safari (and the pictures you will take). Bon Voyage!

  9. Cathy in PA

    Dear Louis,

Walter and I are waving Bon Voyage, and our wishes for a safe, fun and WONDERFUL African trip! We so hope to see baby elephant photos on your return, as well as all about your adventure … Have a GREAT time!

    1. Michelle

Yes to everything that Cathy said! Have a wonderful time. We are looking forward to lots and lots of fantastic photos when you return.

    2. Andrea

      Dittos to what Cathy said!!!!

  10. CGee

Louis, Wishing you an exciting (and safe) safari. I’m with my 96 yr old mother in California and have been replenishing her Linea wardrobe. She’s filled with admiration for your designs and the details! Today she’s wearing your Seafoam Gauze Kimono A233848 with a cream tank and pants for a poolside lunch with a friend. What could be better? We both send bouquets of thanks to you!

  11. Sarah

    Dear Louis
Wishing you a happy, safe and wonderfully adventurous trip. I look forward to reading your recap.
    Sarah

  12. Kathy/Wis

Dear Louis, thinking of you and hope you are safe during the storm.

  13. Sarah

    hi Louis
Just thinking of you and praying that you are prepared and safe. You may need some earplugs if you lose electricity because that generator sometimes gets loud and annoying if you end up needing it. Hopefully no issues for you and your family and friends.
    Stay safe
    Sarah

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

I hope we don’t loose power, but I’m all set. My generator is pretty quite…Right now it’s beautiful and very tropical outside….The calm before the storm!

      1. Jackie from Wisconsin

Louis, I hope the storm passes you without damage. A few weeks ago a fast moving storm with high winds came through SE Wisconsin. Three 60 year old trees of ours cracked in half. I heard them and just closed my eyes hoping they missed the roof of my 1905 barn. Thankfully there were no holes in the roof! However, we were without electricity from Tuesday to Friday. We are off the main road, off “the grid” having our own propane, septic, and well. We ran the generator which only provides minimal comforts. The heat and humidity were stifling. I am waiting on proposals to upgrade a new system to automate and cover the entire house. We can’t be pulling that heavy thing, starting it and filling it with gasoline every so many hours at our age.

Well…..safe travels on your long planned, anxiously awaited trip. We’ll all be waiting to hear all about it.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Jackie, I can’t stress enough the importance of up grading your generator. I got mine about 6 or 7 years ago, and it’s paid for itself many time over. Mine is directly hooked up to my gas line so I never have to think about refilling a propane tank. It goes off every Tues morning at 7am as a self check. It covers the whole house except my third floor studio which I never went to during a storm anyway. During Super Storm Sandy the area loss power for over a week, but I had mine! I can’t wait to go on my African trip. I’m not looking forward to a 15 hour flight, but I’m hoping to sleep through most of it!

        2. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Jackie I can’t stress enough how important my generator is. We loose power often from high winds and down power lines. There are a lot of old trees where I live though I don’t have many and none ate near the house. When Super Storm Sandy hit the area lost power for almost 2 weeks, but I had mine! It covers the whole house…….I can wait to go on my trip to Africa, but I’m not looking forward to the 15 hour plane ride. Hopefully I’ll be asleep for most of it!

  14. designista

Thinking of you. It’s a hell of a time to be on the edge of a hurricane watch from Henri. I hope it doesn’t affect your travel plans, but at least you have one huge hunk of seawall now…quite impressive. All the best.

    1. Michelle

Yes, please do let us know how you’re doing, Louis. Fingers crossed that the strength of the storm lessens before hitting land. Stay safe!

      1. Louis Dell'Olio

Michelle, right now the prediction is that worst part of the storm is going to be further east of me, however it’s all IFFY! We are expected to get lots of rain which is OK as long as it doesn’t create floods and the wind is supposed to be strong. I worry about trees coming down in the area, but I have a generator. Of course it has to be a FULL MOON at the same time so I will have to watch the tides.

        1. Cathy in PA

Walter was watching the weather just now, and said he worried for you with Henri coming, as do I. I know you will, but still … Stay careful, alert and safe!

          1. Louis Dell'Olio

Thank you Cathy and Walter….We are out the edge of the storm but still should get high winds and lots of rain which is OK. What concerns me is the high tides with the full moon…..Today so far is beautiful, The calm before the storm.

            1. Cathy in PA

Walter is glued to the weather channel. Stay safe, friend.

            2. Louis Dell'Olio

Morning….so far it’s quiet here….a drizzle and little wind….but it’s the calm before the deluge….I’m not glued to the weather station as Walter is, because they keep saying the same thing! All I have to do is look out my windows at the LI Sound to see what’s happening….as I said so far all’s calm on the south facing shore. I’ve done all I can to prepare so it’s in God’s hands….Lou and I are going to the Sugar Bowl, out favorite dinner, for a Henri Hurricane breakfast!

        2. Michelle

A full moon….just what you don’t need this weekend! Louis, you and all of the Linea ladies who are in the path of Henri will be in my thoughts this weekend. As Cathy said…stay careful, alert and safe.

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

I’m not leaving until the end of next week so Henri will be long gone, but who knows what’s coming!!!

  15. Michelle

Louis, are you ready for your safari? When do you leave for Africa? And have you managed to squeeze everything into that small carry-on yet? Lol.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

I am ready and managed to pack everything I wanted to take in that small duffel…probably packed more than I should have. We leave at the end of the month.

      1. Barbara

I asked a question dated Aug 5, it was not answered. Does the sage A367141 blouse work with A374426 Loden suede jacket. Thank you Louis.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Barbara….so sorry for this late reply….I can’t tell a lie….I forgot to check and then it went out of my mind….age?! The blouse is lighter in color than the jacket but they are tonal. I like them together. I think I even showed them together with the moss [or olive?] Sante Fe necklace

          1. Barbara

Thank you Louis for your reply! I wish you a wonderful experience on your safari! We’ll miss your daily reports.

          2. Vickybliss

Can you give us a order number for the santa fe necklace?

            1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Vickybliss, the Santa Fe necklace is sold out.

            2. Vickybliss

I realize this is is sold out, but I can’t find it in your louis pages.Which month did you show it? Thank you

            3. Louis Dell'Olio

I honestly don’t remember. I can say it came out the same time as the faux suede jacket.

      2. Michelle

Congratulations on getting a whole lot of stuff in a very small bag! Have a wonderful time. I’m looking forward to you posting some wonderful photos when you return.

      3. Celia

I cant wait to hear about your trip- I imaging you are leaving any day now! I’ll be going end of Sept. for 10 days- Cape Town, Safari near Kruger National Park, and Victoria Falls.
Best of fun to you all! Stay safe.
        Celia

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Cela I leave Sat for 10 days…we are going to totally different places. Is you flight direct or do you make a stop?

          1. Celia

            Louis,
There are so many places to visit in Africa. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from DC to Cape Town. As of now, we go IAD to Doha, then Doha to Cape Town. Our reservations have been changed twice by the airlines, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed! I am excited, and I imagine you are thrilled to be leaving this week! Can’t wait to see your pictures.
            Celia

          2. Celia

I was just reading your earlier post about the clothing for safari. I made a checklist myself! Love my Merrills and my DARN TOUGH socks:-)

            1. Louis Dell'Olio

Your going later so it may be warmer…Lots of sun block and UV protection clothing

          3. Anonymous

Did you get any of those clothes that repel insects? Probably not necessary but now wondering about it. I do NOT want to get bit by one of those awful tsetse flies!

            1. Louis Dell'Olio

I don’t think they repel insects just UV rays, but I do have plenty of bug spray repellents

  16. Debby

What about continuing your collection in collaboration with another designer? Miss your fashion and jewelry, just snagged blue striped shirt on a lunch time special!!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

I don’t see how that could be done. I don’t think at this stage in my life it is something i would be interested in ….been there….done that.

  17. Kathleen k

    Louis,
I recently found a beautiful 2 piece skirt/blazer set from one of your collections. It is almost a rainbow boucle with a straight skirt and double breasted blazer. Do you remember designing it? What was your inspiration? I wish I could share a picture on here!

    1. Anonymous

Just to be clear, this has a tag that solely sais ‘Louis dell’olio, not from the linea line

      1. Louis Dell'Olio

That confuses me even more. Does it say made in Italy. I never had a label that only said Louis Dell’Olio except for a line I did for Sy Syms.

  18. Joanne C

    Louis
Where in your archives can I get a look at the photo’s where you and Donna Karan win your Coty Awards. On the QVC Forums those photo’s were mentioned. I would love to see them. Thanks

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Joanne, if you go to July scroll to the bottom and the story and photos are on 7 and 8.

  19. Michelle

I think we may need to start a Fall fashion lovers support group to help us get through our first Fall season without a Linea collection in 20 years. I looked back to see what Louis was sharing with us in August, 2020. We had a Big Deal, fez jewelry and amazing suits in bisque, black, plum. Sigh….

    1. Irene

I agree with you Michelle. It was such a beautiful collection.
I have not seen anything this year that could compare.

    2. Donna from California

I too been having anxiety over the thought of nothing new for the fall season. However, I reminded myself that I have LOTS of new items from Louis hanging ( crammed might be a more apt description) in my closet. I’ve done pretty much nothing for a year, so the plum suit and all the rest ARE NEW. Still …

      1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Donna, I’m sure with ALL of the Linea you own you will never be at a loss for something to wear….LOL

        1. Karen in WI

I think a support group is a wonderful idea! I was just thinking about all the wonderful Linea I have and focusing on “playing” and making different combinations of outfits than I usually do. We could call it a “play group”! As we get our autumn clothes out, posting about how we are combining our clothes and jewelry would be wonderful to hear. Pictures would be better!

          1. Anne

            That’s a great idea.

          2. Michelle

I think that’s a wonderful idea, Karen! Should we call it the Fall Linea “Play, Play, Play” Group? Lol.

          3. Anonymous

            Great idea.

  20. Enjay

Ladies, there’s a big Fall sale happening at the Q, and some classic Linea pieces are marked down / some for the first time. All Linea hose is on sale – I’ve been stalking these and stocked up on the fantastic 100 denier tights and the Swiss dot and lace set. They’re simply the best. I also ordered back-ups to my all time favorite Linea blazers – the black riding jacket and A343162 – simply the most perfect blazer ever created. Hurry over. It’s so worth investing in these classic pieces and scooping up the best tights in the world!

    1. Anne

      Thanks Enjay.

  21. Andrea

Hi Louis, God willing I am going to travel to Miami for work in October. I think it will still be pretty hot there. There is a cocktail party the first night. I have A307470 in black and thought it would be a good option. I really don’t want to wear anything too “sexy.” Do you have any suggestions of a stole or shrug or other way to wear it that will cover the tops of my arms?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Andrea, all of your ideas will work. Stoles are always good, but they are something you will have to fuss with all evening to keep your arms covered. A391008, the ruffle cardigan in black I think would be perfect. It’s in the same Moss Crepe as the dress so the blacks should work well. It’s also on clearance for under $38 or $39. It would be something good to have in your wardrobe to wear over many different things. A crop open front cardigan or bolero of some sort would also work. A kimono type jacket like my desert stripe, A351112, or any print that works with black…..my Georgette safari shirt worn open over it like a shirt jacket would also work…..because it’s sheer it will look dressy enough but not too dressy. A lace jacket would work too like my A379903 or the shantung unlined jacket in ivory, A351115 with a fabulous necklace would also work for Oct in Florida.

      1. Andrea

        Thank you, Louis!

      2. Anonymous

Does the Sage blouse A367141 work with the Loden green faux suede Jacket A374426? I have the Loden blouse that matches the suede jacket but I prefer the style of the A367141 blouse if it blends with the jacket. Thanks.

  22. Benita Fuller

As I am trying to pick up as many pieces as I can before they are no longer available, how would the Lurex Alabasta Wide Knit Sweater work with the Latte Embroidered Skirt? Thank you.

    1. Karen in WI

Benita, I just wanted to jump in while you wait for Louis. I ordered the alabaster lurex and plan to wear it with black, navy, jeans, port, and espresso bottoms. I have the champagne Karina necklace which goes perfectly with this sweater. It is still available. I don’t have the latte skirt though. Did you check the Facebook video on the lurex sweaters? You don’t have to be a member to see it on the site. I have the black lurex and adore it. Such an elegant shape and subtle shimmer!

      1. Anonymous

Thanks Karen. I will check out the Lurex Sweater. Wondered if the ruffle black blouse might work.

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Benita….had to find the samples….The sweater is much lighter than the emb. skirt, so if you are looking for a match I’d say no. Anything in black would be best with the tan glitterati necklace to pick up the Latte color.

  23. Andrea

Happy Birthday! Are you going to post the Facebook live video here? I would love to see it, but I am not on Facebook.

      1. Barbara

Louis does the sage blouse A367141 work with the moss blazer A366537. If now what greenish blouse do you suggest

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Barbara, I’m not sure which jacket this is. It is sold out and no image shows up on the website. Can you describe it?

          1. Anonymous

This is moss and has red stripes going across. You showed this jacket with 4 different plaids, a big deal – caramel ,moss , ivory and yellow. It’s still available on clearance.

            1. Louis Dell'Olio

Yes, the shirt was planned to go with the Big Deal Plaid jacket, so the color will work.

  24. Donna from California

Something seems wrong with the QVC Linea jewelry selection options. Things sold out some time ago are being offered in multiple colors like the Trevi coin necklace and earrings. Venus shell necklace and on. Knowing what other Linea ladies are going through, with items not being sent, I’m reluctant to purchase any items.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Donna this has all to do with QVC’s horrible house keeping. When there are few pieces left they hang around in the warehouse until someone decides to return them to our shipping center than they have to be reinstated and put up on the site. The quantities are very very limited….in some cases one or two pieces. I can’t advise you because it would be sent to who ever gets their order in first.

      1. Donna from California

Thanks for the response Louis. I’ll go ahead and order some things and keep my fingers crossed.

        1. Cela

Dear Louis, I don’t know when you plan to leave for your African safari but I wish you the best. Have a good trip!! One of my dear friends took a once in a lifetime trip there. He was gone a month and went to several countries including Kenya. He was a cameraman for ABC and
he teased us that he was going to “Shoot that tiger right
between the eyes”. Of course, he meant — with a camera, being the avid animal lover he was!!! He invited us over to see the fabulous pictures he took
in Africa . An unforgettable slide show resulted from his
efforts . You’re a great photographer, too, and will have your nephew to help you. I’m sure you’ll bring back some great photography from the Motherland.

          1. Louis Dell'Olio

Cela….a month!!! That would be incredible. I actually wish my trip was longer, 10 days, but my nephew can’t be away any longer, and that is the schedule of the safari we are going on. I guess I could have stayed in South Africa, but with the viris it’s best to come home. I leave the end of August and come back the second week of Jan. Lou will be living in my house with the girls while I’m gone.

            1. Cela

The assignment desk kept asking him when he was coming back? LOL. I think he overstayed a little. He had many friends there . I have many friends WHO CAME FROM there. You wouldn’t believe some of the
stories he came up with!!! I always wanted to go but mr travel girlfriends and boyfriends were leary of the conflicts, etc. I always thought Americans are “looked after” in foreign countries and more or less safe to go,
I don’t know? Maybe you should get a booster? Are you having to take tests?

            2. Louis Dell'Olio

Yes Cela….I have to test negative 72 hours before I leave. My doctor said a booster wasn’t necessary because I will be very isolated from the general public. The people who work at the camps stay in the camps and don’t leave. I ill also have a test at the last camp by a nurse before I make the trip home.

  25. Ginny

Dear Louis, on June 7th I placed an order for 7 pieces of jewelry. I was notified on June 11th they were shipped with a message no tracking information available at this time. My visa was charged. By June 30th I still had not received them and after 7 calls to QVC a supervisor agreed to ship out another 7 pieces. I received an email and the tracking number assigned to those said they are on their way. By the way they charged me again. Another phone call and they credited the second shipment. As of today I have not received any of the 14 pieces they said were shipped and the last supervisor I spoke to said it was the vendors problem…….

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

That’s crazy….I will forward your e-mail to Cathy and see if we can get to the bottom of this.

      1. Ginny

Louis, thank you for your help. I am forwarding the tracking numbers QVC assigned and emailed to me if that’s any help. A couple of other notes.

For shipment #2 I did receive one item. 1 item is still showing in process (the website says it’s still available) and one item is no longer available.

        Shipment #1 1Z060800YW37506895, 1Z060800YW37506902, 1Z052793YW51154567, 92748909901197573004401733. Shipped on June 11

        Shipment #2 92748909901197573004401733, 92748999964273573089281807, 92748999964273573086618781 shipped on June 28

I am disappointed because half of my items that I ordered are no longer listed on the website.
Something is definitely wrong at QVC. 8 calls and no one knows where the jewelry is….

I truly appreciate any assistance you and Kathy may be able to provide.
        Ginny

          1. Anonymous

Louis, they are ups and Usps tracking numbers.

            The QVC order numbers are:
            June 7, 2021 #6557927100
            June 19, 2021 # 5478587544

            Thanks! Ginny

No, they are ups and Usps tracking numbers.

            The QVC order numbers are:

      2. Susan (aka CarlyTwila)

I have the same situation going on with jewelry orders dating back to March. After numerous calls to QVC, and reorders, it is still a mess. Clothing is not a problem so I am not sure what’s going on with the jewelry. I need to call them again – sigh.

  26. Barbara

Louis today I received your verdigris necklace. But much to my surprise it was turquoise! I have another style of yours in verdigris, a definite green. Did I get a mistake? Of course all colors Of the disc necklace are sold out. A big disappointment.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Barbara, the “verdigris” is done with a special process and the colors will vary. No two are exactly alike. This is the only color that can’t be made stable due to the process…..so it is quite possible one will be green and another more turquoise.

  27. designista

Hello stranger! I’m happy to learn that your safari is on schedule. We were planning one for this year, but postponed. Have you found any interesting safari type purveyors? We started outfitting with Eddie Bauer, L.L. Bean, Duluth Trading and Orvis. There were some interesting African clothiers on line. Our list also included a field hat like my old Tilley that packs flat, and a vest with pockets as a layering piece. Did you get a VPN account for your phone and iPad? I read somewhere that the camps wash all the clothes in hot water and put them in the dryer. On some of the synthetic UPF50 clothing I was worried about shrinkage. I’m looking forward to your travel log. Alyce

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Alyce…..a big hello to you….I literally had to buy new clothes with UV protection. I got a great safari hat from REI. It’s called the “Tilley”, and it comes in SIZES!! I have a big head and the one size fits most doesn’t fit me, so I was happy to find it, and it’s very good looking. They also have wonderful clothes.I got great safari light weight LS shirts from “Columbia”, and All Terrain Gear “ATG”. Binoculars from NOCS…..I looked at all the people you mentioned and did get some cargo chinos and shorts from LL Bean…I got great walking shoes from Merrels, and socks from “Darn Tough” in neutral colors. I only had white or black….the two colors they say not to wear…90% of my wardrobe……Now tell me all about VPN [what is it] and how do I get an account? I know when Jac and I traveled she did get some account for her cell phone, but I was never involved. I am bringing my new phone instead of a camera. It takes great pictures and videos. I’m also taking my new I-Pad.

      1. designista

VPN is a virtual private network that encrypts your internet traffic, provides privacy and anonymity, encryption to scramble data, protects your IP address and location, and provides servers worldwide. The free ones are of little value. I’ve been looking at a VPN that will work with my iMac, iPad, and iPhone. I was Interested in VPN Express until Apple dropped them from the App Store for Hong Kong ownership, even though they are located in St. Thomas. I am now looking into Nord VPN, where you can have 6 devices on the same account. That’s it so far. Nord VPN is available at the App Store. Most VPN’s work with all systems. Thanks for the shopping info!

          1. Michelle

Don’t let anyone say that the Linea ladies are not tech savvy! Lol. Thanks for all of the fashion and technology information on the blog today.

  28. Michelle

Louis, are you still going on safari this Fall? If so, it would be fun to see what you decide to pack for the trip. It would feel a bit like we were going on the trip with you if you posted some pictures of what you’re taking with you. And as a not-so-great packer, I always enjoy your lessons on how to properly pack everything so that it fits into a small suitcase.

    1. Anne Laskin

      Great idea Michelle.

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

I am still going at the end of August, which is their Spring. I’ve laid out all the clothes I’d like to take, but the duffel you’re allowed is so small I know I will have to edit what I have.

      1. Michelle

Louis, that’s wonderful news. I’m sure it will be an amazing trip. I’d love to see what you end up packing for the trip. And how you made it all fit! I can never do it. Lol. It would also be fun to discuss which Linea pieces might work on a safari, for those of us Linea ladies who will be inspired by your trip to plan our own safari adventure.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Michelle, I have learned that what is NEEDED for a true safari trip is very different than a normal vacation trip. Firstly the colors. They suggest muted colors that will blend into the surroundings……tans, brown, khaki, olives [pale and dark]. In other words a neutral pallet. No bright colors, no red, white or black. The colors I’m bringing tend to be grayed….like a gray blue and gray itself. Also the time of year and weather makes a big difference. End of August into Sept is the ideal time, and the height of the safari season because it is their spring. The weather is dry and ranges from the low 50’s to the mid 80s. After Sept the temperatures really climb. Also they recommend wearing long pants and long sleeve shirts with UV protection, of which I had NONE. I got a pair of Merrells walking shoes, because Sneakers aren’t good enough. Flip Flops and Deck Shoes for at camp. I had to get new socks in muted colors because mine are all white gym socks, and white attacks mosquitoes and Tsetse Flies…..who knew. Lots of underwear of course. I plan on wearing S/S tee shirts under these LS shirts so if it should get warm I can open them like a shirt jacket. I’m also brings some long sleeve Tees to ward off bugs and the sun. One olive hoodie…I have been told the jeeps go out in the morning and late afternoon for best animal viewing. The animals rest in the heat of mid day…There are 6 to 8 guests at each camp site…I needed new cargo pants and cargo shorts with many pockets. Even the shirts have lots of pockets. They are super thin and light weight with wicking properties and UV protection….something I never thought about before. I’m also bringing a few comfy pull-on shorts for the camp, and to sleep in. This is not normally how I dress. For me it’s a cotton tee or a LaCoste for dress up, and pull-on cotton knit or nylon pants and shorts [black]. I really did have to invest in a new wardrobe, but I do love everything I bought and will definitely incorporate it into my every day wardrobe. I’m bringing one or two bathing suits. There are pools at each camp…nice! I’m also bringing two white linen shirts to go out to dinner in at the Johannesburg Hotel and for a dressier dinner at the camps…..Lots of bug spray and sun screen too, plus an assortment of medications my doctor suggested I bring and already wrote prescriptions for….even sleeping pills for the plane…my I-Pad [new], small binoculars [new], my new fabulous phone which will be my camera [it takes panorama shots!]…all of this plus more in a very small duffel bag and a carry on!!! I know I’ll have to edit! They do laundry at each camp

          1. Michelle

Wow, you really did have to get a whole new wardrobe! But as I was reading your post, I thought, that all makes perfect sense. You don’t want to attract bugs or disturb the animals with your clothing choices, and everything needs to serve multiple purposes. I have to say, though, I think that you’ll need to be a magician to fit that all in a carry on and a small duffel bag! I’m not sure that I could fit that in a checked bag. Lol!!

            1. Louis Dell'Olio

I don’t know either. I will be editing as I’m packing…essentials first, and then add until the bag is full.

      2. Susan (aka CarlyTwila)

This sounds like a fantastic trip! I can only imagine the inspirational designs that would have sprung from it! As we head into the transitional season I find myself missing those sneak peaks even more! Warm weather fall outfits were a unique gift of the Linea collection! I will be digging out my safari shirts while you are traveling!

  29. Andrea

Hi Louis. I just wanted to let you know that I ordered the tassel grande necklace, and I love it. I have been on the fence about it for a while because I am shorter, and then I wasn’t sure if the tassel was trendy and maybe on its way out. But, it came yesterday and I had to wear it today. I wore it with a relatively simple outfit, your ivory shark bite shirt and black pants, but it just pulled everything together and gave a little flair. It doesn’t overwhelm me as a petite person at all, and it seems like a timeless accessory that I can wear even if tassels aren’t all the rage! I think I might have ordered it just in time, because I think it’s sold out now. But, I love it, and if there are any more than anyone else is on the fence I highly recommend it.

  30. Seyma Lehrer

    Dear Louis,
Is the denim blue in A374663 the same denim blue in A351470?

  31. queendiva

Hello Louis- on this scorching hot day I was fortunate to have access to a pool. After returning home I reached into my closet and pulled out a long time favorite: A222262- your floral print scoop neck maxi dress in the coolest shade of green on white.
I lived in your maxi dresses all last summer and I am enjoying then once again! Nothing cooler or more comfortable, not to mention beautiful!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

I remember the dress well. It was a wonderful fabric. If I remember correctly it was almost like a linen rayon feel and drape.

      1. Sylvia

I found this dress on Poshmark and purchased it recently.

  32. Michelle

Louis, I thought of you when I recently saw a picture of Queen Margrethe of Denmark with her sisters (Princess Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece). They are on the Danish royal yacht all looking lovely and stylish. But what caught my eye was the Queen’s necklace. It looks exactly like your Carnival Necklace! The Queen certainly has good taste. I love that necklace. Here’s a link to the picture:
    https://www.therealmyroyals.com/queen-margrethe-ii-of-denmark-enjoys-summer-days-with-her-sisters-princess-benedikte-and-queen-anne-marie-of-greece-at-grasten-slot/

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

WOW….it really does look like the necklace. Do you think she shopped at QVC????….LOL

      1. Michelle

Perhaps her personal assistant shops on QVC! Lol.

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

If there is supposed to be a link with a picture it’s not here?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Pratt….you look beautiful, and such a beautiful day!!!! I’m so glad you were able to post pictures here. I think after all of these years you are the very first to post pictures and I LOVE seeing the face in front of the name!!

      1. Pratt

Thank you Louis. Yes being able to share pictures is really good. Google photos makes it easier to just make a single picture public. Glad to help anyone who wants to do the same too.

    2. Karen in WI

Pratt, you look beautiful! I love the color of the dress! I agree it is very lovely to tie a picture up with a name. It would be fun for the rest of us to follow suit!

Louis, I could not respond below regarding the jeans scandal so I am here! I didn’t know that jeans were not appropriate at school, unless it was a private school. Good for your friends to show solidarity! I didn’t realize the Yankees didn’t allow beards. My husband’s company also does not allow beards.

We are on our way home from a northern Michigan vacation. I am wearing your light tan capris with the sheer part by the knees and the lace inset shirt in antique rose. So comfy! Love and hugs to you!

    3. Kim S

Pratt, you look beautiful in this dress!! Perfect accessories.

      1. Pratt

Thank you, Karen! Tan capris and lace insert shirt – beautiful! Thanks for reminding me of those items 😀

    4. Michelle

Pratt, you look gorgeous! The color of your dress is wonderful and the minimal accessories were perfect. I have no doubt that you were the most elegant guest at the wedding. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

      1. Pratt

Thank you Michelle. You are too kind 🙂

  33. Goldie76

    Louis,

As a designer, you were always familiar with the most stylish and elegant fashion houses throughout the U.S. and the world. I remember. I also recall that, several years ago, I wrote to you about a few of the elite establishments in the Washington, D.C., area that were closing their doors. You knew the places that I mentioned and mourned their demise.

Well, after 113 years, Rizik’s, the “opulent D.C. fashion boutique,” will be shuttered. They posted the following on their website: “Rizik’s will be closing its location at Connecticut Avenue and L Street NW on June 30, 2021. From June 1 to June 30 all merchandise will be offered at reductions from 50-70%.”

Elegance of a certain sort is certainly dying off. Keeping up with the trend, though, they will begin selling online July 1. Gone forever, though, are their luxuriously appointed salon and personal attention that customers/clients enjoyed along with a glass of fine wine.

      1. Goldie76

They were highly regarded locally and dressed the wives of many politicos (including First Ladies) as well as women of a later era who were very successful on their own merit.

        1. CGee

Goldie, I was sad to see that news. I remember trying on wedding gowns there in the late 70s — what an experience!

          1. Goldie76

CGee, I am so glad you had such a memorable experience with Rizik’s. The loss of all the prime go-to emporia for fine fashions is but another sign of our times. I do lament these sorts of changes/losses. Nothing will ever be the same, I suppose. Will there be a return to high glamour and elegant outfits — ever? Maybe in 40-50 years. I am sorry that I’ll miss out on a return to a refined and stylish look, if it ever appeals to the masses again.

            1. CGee

Goldie and Louis, Big changes in our lifetimes. My mother (now in her 90s) was just saying that as late as the early 1960s she never went to San Francisco without a hat and gloves. BTW she is looking pretty in her new Linea Moss Crepe Ruffle Cardigan and Tank (Navy) — and has happily worn Linea for years, prompting many “where did you get that?” comments. Both of us send thanks to Louis!

            2. Karen in WI

Goldie, I wonder the same thing! I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s and I even see such a drastic change. My own mother kept asking me why I was wearing a skirt or dress when I wasn’t going anywhere. I reminded her that she wore a dress every day until some time in the 60’s or early 70’s. I will dress nicely no matter what “most” women are wearing! I read that house dresses were making a bit of a comeback and I am completely on it, with an apron over of course.

My husband works in an office and has told me that he has sent men (mostly young men) home to iron their shirts. I laughed. Our two middle sons just started internships at the same company and of course they were pressed from head to toe with short haircuts. Our sons commented that some of the interns didn’t look too polished. Luckily they weren’t working for my husband!

            3. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Karen, I am very impressed by your husband!….I think it is up to parents like you and your husband, and schools to teach young people how to dress and why first impressions make all the difference. To me a sloppy unkempt young person will have sloppy work habits. When I was in High School in the 60s there were dress codes. If a girl was wearing a skirt that was too short she had to kneel on the floor and if the hem didn’t touch she was sent home! That may have been a little drastic, because I grew up when mini skirts were the thing, and the girls wanted to wear them, but they weren’t appropriate for school. The girls all learned quickly how to roll the waist bands!…..JEANS! I was sent to the principles office for wearing them. My first period English teacher was a pompous ass. The next day four of my friends in the class came in wearing jeans. There was no ruling at the time on jeans, he just didn’t like them. We got him back later in the year, but that’s another story.I think the Yankees, my team, do it RIGHT. No beards and the guys are all well groomed. It shows discipline, and a sense of pride. I see other teams and the players are a hot mess IMHO.

  34. queendiva

    Hello Louis!
What a wonderful Father’s Day post and family history lesson! Thanks so much for sharing.
Today I wore to Mass over a sleeveless dress one of my all-time favorites: A221793: Linea black short sleeve cardigan with lace embroidered detail. Cotton/rayon. This sweater took my breath away the first time I laid eyes on it and I still love it just as much today. Takes so many outfits, both casual and dressier to the Wow level. So comfortable, too. I enjoy wearing it often- usually with other cherished Linea pieces, but today with a Vince Camuto midi dress.

  35. Cindy Seiler

In a previous year you were selling a blazer in white and black called Linea it was made out of 98%polyester and 2% spandex RN90133. Back of tag also reads A276280. This blazer was wrinkle free with zipper in front with flexible roll up sleeves. Great for travel. Do you have any more in stock in black? I ordered the white and it is still in wonderful shape. Would like to order more. Please advise. Thanks so much!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Cindy. There aren’t any more of those jackets, and since I am no longer associated with QVC there won’t be anything new coming……Happy to hear you like the one you have. take good care of it!

  36. Andrea

Louis, I am going to wear your grass green flowered shirt from 2019 with ivory pants (pictured here: http://www.louisdellolio.com/blog/?p=19561). Is it better to wear black or ivory shoes with this outfit this time of year? Thanks!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Andrea, since it’s after Memorial white is fine. I would just do a bare sandal if you can…..heel height doesn’t matter if the sandal is strappy.

      1. Andrea

        Thanks, Louis!

  37. Bernadette

    Hi Louis,

Is the jewelry still free shipping or was it just for that opportunity when you did you live show?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Bernadette, I just looked at the jewelry site and there isn’t any free S&H, so it must have been just for the show

      1. Bernadette

I looked earlier also but you just never know with QVC.

        Thank you 😊

  38. Joanne C

I forgot to mention in my previous posting. Last week I wore your Linea blue/white stripe shirt with embroidery on the front under your navy trench coat fabric blazer and Linea navy ponte pants. People wanted to buy that blouse off of my back!

  39. Joanne C

    Louis
Last night I wore your gauze crepe short trench and matching pants in periwinkle blue with a white Linea whisper knit v neck tank. What a lovely outfit! I am still bereft that we will not be able to buy your clothing anymore. I own so much Linea. Your clothing is the mainstay of my professional and casual wardrobe. Thank you Louis!
P.S. I am loving the retrospective!

  40. Nancy (AKA TheOwl)

So here is what I learned after consulting color wheel options, Louis. My petrol blue pieces may go with:
    Bold Pink,
Some shades of darker muted or darker Red
    Yellow, Gold and Mustard Yellow
    cobalt blue
    Taupe
    Rust
    Grey
    Brown
    White
Also from postings of others, you have shown it with cream/ivory, and with Black and with Lime
You also suggested recent versions of forest green
If this calls to mind other suggestions, fire away! Also if any of these options sounds wrong to you. I will play around with these options and thank you for sending me out on the hunt for a color wheel. 🙂 !!!!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Nancy I think you did a great job of searching colors. When using bold colors like the pink you have to be careful to balance it out with accessories. I’m not sure of Cobalt which is usually more of a purple blue than a petrol which has more green. You could try paler green blues in the dustier deep aqua shades. Of course we are just throwing names around but the shades have to be good together. Your off to a good start. Always look at scarf combinations for colors. You can google designer scarves for ideas

Heartfelt Thanks Louis!!! Nancy (AKA TheOwl)

  41. Ginny

    Good morning Louis!
I enjoyed your Facebook live show yesterday. All of you looked great!

Quick question…..were you serious about wanting us to contact JTV to sell your jewelry? I have no experience with them but would happily contact them and make the request if you would like. I’m sure there are many of us here on your blog that would also contact them on your behalf.

    Enjoy your day!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Ginny, I’ll let you know….at the moment it may be a contractual conflict with QVC

      1. Anonymous

If I can help in anyway I will!

        1. Ginny

          Sorry Louis that was me….ginny

  42. Nancy (AKA TheOwl)

Louis, I know this is going back a good ways, but I have always been stumped as to what to pair your petrol blue color with. Maybe it is the name. Can’t get past “petrol”. I have the WK midi skirt, the WK tank and the WK open front cardigan A257376. If you remember or have any swatches from that time, can you suggest color pairings for me? Caramel? for example?

    1. CGee

Adding the WK Mallard cardigan to Nancy/Owl’s question 🙂

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

Nancy do you remember about what year it was so I can look it up. Your instincts are right with the caramel or anything in the color range. On the color wheel they are on the opposite side. Play with different colors just keep there values the same. I would avoid brighter colors than the petrol. It can be done like a brighter burnt orange, but the accessories would have to pull it together.. I think the newest forest green tank would also look great with petrol. I would really have to look at the petrol color again. As I recall it was a unique color that had some teal in it.

      1. Suellen

Louis, it if helps you look up these items, the first customer reviews for the cardigan A257376 are dated August 5, 2014. I loved the petrol blue color!

      2. CGee

The WK Mallard Blue cardigan A267864 was Sept. 2016 and on your blog you showed it with Lime and Ivory.

      3. Nancy (aka The Owl)

Louis I think the petrol blue pieces first came out in 2014, summer. August maybe. I bought most of my pieces of that color and reviewed them in July of 2015. Do you possibly have a link or a site that has a color wheel you might recommend to me? I’m sure you have it all memorized. I never was a great art student, so believe it or not there is not a color wheel in my possession. I’ll get out on the internet and look for one. Many thanks for your thoughts on that particular blue. One of the items, the open front cardigan was A257376 if that is of help. I’ve been a bit stumped by that color since I got it. Black or white of course the first obvious ones that work but there MUST be so much more that I am missing. I want to make the absolute most out of all of my many lush Linea colors! Many thanks for your help. I know your eye for color is impeccable and have been too embarrassed to ask sooner. 6 years of being stumped by this color 🙄. Now I really am embarrassed!!!

  43. Ginny

Ladies, most of the jewelry posted now has reduced prices and free shipping! I just ordered 8 pieces and got a refund on the three pieces I bought last week. Better hurry if you’ve got your eye on something!

PS. Goldie if you bought and reviewed it, I bought it! Thanks for your outstanding and descriptive comments.

  44. Bernadette

    Hi Louis,

I just grabbed the graphite lace top and the grapevine necklace in gray. What are your thoughts on these two together?

      1. Bernadette

J483110. It’s the one with the pearls and looks like a bib. This has ivory and gray pearls. I hope that helps. It may be too small to look right with the graphite lace top.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Bernadette, I no longer have that necklace to try. I do remember it….it came in three different colors. The best I can offer is if you have both when you are fully dressed and makeup ready…try them on…if you like it, and you think they look go and work together than go for it….there is no right or wrong.

      1. Bernadette

No worries. I will do so. 😃. And honestly at $20 for the necklace it was a huge score. My closet is full with your designs since 2017. I wish I had found you on QVC sooner but we know it all happens when it is supposed to happen. And again, I want to thank you for giving me my fashion sense going back to the 80s. I didn’t know it then but after seeing all the vintage pics it was your gift from God that defined how I dressed then and today.
I don’t know what we will do without yor designs going forward except to make do with the treasures we already have and to create that style with what we find going forward.

        Hugs,
        Bernadette

        1. Debby

Where did you find the necklace for $20.00?

          1. Louis Dell'Olio

Debby who are you asking and what necklace. this Weds I will be doing a face book live with Cathy and Karen. There will be great prices on all jewelry.

            1. Debby

asking Bernadette, – miss your clothing and and jewelry!

          2. Bernadette

            hi Debbie,

It showed up on QVC out of the blue

  45. Donna from California

    Hi Louis,
    A styling question…
I have the blue shirt that matches the double layer pant black/blue A378745. My question is: If I want to pair the pants with a black top, do I need to pull in blue in my jewelry or do I only wear the pant with the matching blue shirt?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Donna…you can wear those black and blue pants with many things, and many types of jewelry…..For instance…with a black top you can wear it with all sorts of black necklaces like the nugget or ANY faceted bead glass necklaces like the swag or the floral. You can wear it with a white top like a tank and again white or black jewelry….The twisted bugle bead necklace [still avail] would be perfect because it’s light and sparkly. The black and white Massai necklace would look great. The Tibetan in black and gold would look very exotic, and the Mobil necklace in gold with the earring would also look fabulous. For that matter any thing in gold like any of the coin necklaces….the Roma or the Trevi in the onyx with the trevi earring in black….Also the 20th Anniversary pendant or the Fez in black would all look great with black or white tops You see there are lots of options that would all look exciting with those pants……I will be doing a Face Book live show on the 9th, not sure of the time, noon or 1pm is my guess. There will be special pricing on the jewelry…..lots of the pieces are at this point very limited. The jewelry is really winding down.

      1. Donna from California

Thanks Louis! I’m afraid I tend to think too matchy. I own many of the pieces you mentioned but think your suggestions give me license to purchase more. Will be watching for your show on the 9th!

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Donna….you MUST PLAY with what you have!!!!!!A white shirt tucked in and belted with a black belt or a white tee or tank is an easy mix. Then you can really have fun with accessories.

        2. Louis Dell'Olio

Donna….what do I always tell you!!!!! PLAY, PLAY, PLAY. You must play with what you own. A white shirt either tucked in with a black belt or worn out [sleeves rolled up] or a white tee or tank will allow you to really play with all kinds of accessories. You just have to open up to the possibilities out there….that’s the fun of dressing and every time you put the pants on you will have different ways to wear them……BTW wait until next week to buy jewelry . I’m told there will be special pricing on everything!!!

  46. Bernadette

    Hi Louis,

Is it still possible to send items to your jewelry company, TCJC, not QVC, fo repair?

    Thank you,
    Bernadette

  47. Kathy J

I was going through spring/summer things that had been stored for two years (things were different last year) and found a tie-dyed cardigan from Linea that I had gotten probably three or four years ago. Louis–you are always ahead of things And of course your tie-dye was more sophisticated than what I see now.

  48. Karen in WI

Louis, I have finally decided that my closet is way too full and that I need to start switching my clothes out with the seasons. That way I can actually see what I have! As I put my winter clothes in totes, I was wondering if I need to put in anything like cedar balls? I don’t have much wool. when I told my husband I was going to start doing this, he snickered and said I was the only one who would be doing that as I have too many clothes. I told him he was wrong and that most Linea Ladies did the same thing! He did say that we should change out all our closets with a California Closet organization system and I sweetly agreed. All is forgiven. 😉

I also wanted to tell you that I received your beautiful black/silver faceted glass torsade and could not be more thrilled! I saw another one pop up and actually ordered two, hoping I would get at least one. Of course I got two this time. It’s such a unique, yet simple design and just says WOW.

I wore your lovely sapphire eyelet skirt with sapphire ss WK sweater this morning on a coffee date with my husband and loved the way I looked! Got the eyebrow again too!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Karen, I have kept my samples in storage for years without adding any cedar or moth balls….however in the hose where I keep the samples I do have hanging cedar discs. If you keep then in sealed containers as I keep my sweaters nothing is needed. The only thing to worry about is wool. Bugs don’t eat polyester! LOL, another advantage of poly!

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

I do have cedar discs in my storage room in the house, but there is also wool clothing in it. At the ware house I have nothing in the room with all of the vintage samples.

      1. Karen in WI

Thank you! I will then just put some cedar discs in with the wool things I have and totes for the rest. Hugs to you!

      2. CGee

Louis, Will you give us a video tour inside the warehouse some day?

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

CGee…it’s juat a block room. Right now it’s almost empty with lots of empty racks. Really nothing to see.

  49. Bernadette

    Hi Ladies!

I found another item hanging out in Limited Quantity pricing…
    A351470
Linea by Louis Dell’Olio Regular Printed Pull-On Wide Leg Pants

  50. Chris S.

    Louis,
I remembered when Jac modeled the pink t shirt dress in your garden with the cherry trees.

Type The T Shirt dress in black & pink into your search bar and the picture will come up. It is from May 2014. So lovely!

      1. vjee

Louis my security won’tmlet me pull you up so I can write an independent inquiry, so I will, piggy back ..what maybe ten years ago you designed some cardigans in prints similar to tir dye but a bit more sophisticated in blue, black, sage and brown in
91 % polyester and 9 percent spandex. It never wrinkles. It is so damn sophisticated, I can wear it to bed, get up, put on slacks and a tank top and wear it to lunch. I have wanted you to do print pajamas. It falls better than any graduated top.. The print is horizonal broken up with dollops of vertical . You mist have them in your archives. Slightly high neck, but folded back and stitched at center of back of neck to stand just a tiny bit. They will never wear out. I just want some variety. I could throw it on the floor walk on it for days, pick it up shake it out nary a wrinkle. sorry if there are misspellings my security on my iPad doesnt like me typing on unsecured sites

  51. Andrea

Hi Louis, I recently purchased the dark teal asymmetrical neck blouse on an auction site. It seems like this is more of a fall color, so I guess I will wear it with brown pants or even my plum pants. Is the right color combo? Do you have any suggestions for jewelry? I saw the plum and teal carnival necklace on eBay, but I was outbid! Thank you!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Andrea, is there still an A# in the blouse so i can see which it is on QVC. They still may have a picture of it. I’m not sure of the neckline.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

I agree with Sheesh…..A necklace isn’t necessary. You could try a brooch at the bottom of the drape….or just some bangles and earring with the sleeves pushed up would work. You could wear light color bottoms like alabaster, tan and chino besides white.

          1. Karen in WI

Andrea, I have this top and love to wear it with brown skirts or pants, as well as black or Gary. It would go well with navy too, I think. I agree that it doesn’t need a necklace as the asymmetrical drape is so lovely by itself. Just wear some fabulous earrings in a complementary metal.

    2. Sheesh

Andrea, I don’t see why you couldn’t wear this top on a cool summer evening with white slim jeans/pants or crop pants. You don’t need a necklace; just wear some impactful earrings and push the sleeves up and layer on some bracelets.

  52. Paula DiGiacomo

    Dear Louis,

I am very glad you no longer feel the burden of stress that QVC created over the last decade. It’s wonderful to know you have found an outlet that keeps you motivated and in touch with your community of devoted fans. It is truly a gift to be able to communicate with you directly. We all love you & miss you.

    Take care of yourself.

  53. Paula DiGiacomo

    Hi Louis,

As with so many other ladies, I am deeply saddened to learn QVC has yet again lost their senses & eliminated your sophisticated, elegant & priceless clothing line. I have many pieces which will last forever, however, my all time stand out favorite is your lamb leather jacket with the knit sleeves Item #A297864. I have it in every color – thank goodness for easy pay! Every time I wear those jackets, I get tons of compliments. I usually wear them completely zipped up with a statement necklace & they look fabulous! Again, they will last for years. Money very well spent.

I can understand how hurt & dissappointed you are about having to leave QVC, but as I am very sure you know, they are no longer the same company. I used to be a devoted customer for 30 plus years, having that channel on practically 24/7 & I have the American Express bills to prove it. Now, I never, ever watch it and have absolutely no desire to. To be perfectly honest, they don’t deserve to have someone of your caliber, expertise and class on their network. You are much too special for that.

I know losing your beautiful wife and now having the QVC work eliminated may seem insurmountable, however, God never takes away anything he does not replace. I have no doubt your creative energy & your determination to make a difference in the world will take on an exciting new journey in the not too distant future.

You care too much about people & they care very much for you & I know this will lead you in a new & inspiring direction. There is always answer, we just have to have the faith, wisdom & patience to find it. Don’t forget, you have a special guardian angel looking down on you & loving you.

    Take care & God Bless.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Paula thank you so much for your kind words. Over the last 20 plus years at QVC there has been quite an ARC. The first 10 were really wonderful. It was like climbing up the mountain and enjoying every step. I reached the pinnacle, and all was good…..but….the last 10 years was a slow decent…..The company started to change with new management, and at the end it may not have been my choice, and it was a disappointment, but in the end it was a major release. I have heard from so many how unhappy they are, but they will hang on as long as they can…..that’s not for me. I do miss designing, but everyday less so. It was my routine for 50 plus years. I miss the people I worked with at Lai Apparel on a constant basis, though we are all in touch. I miss working with Cathy at the jewelry company, but we speak 2 to 3 times a week and sometimes more…..and we will still do videos as long as TCJC owns the jewelry inventory [we are planning one the first week of June]. QVC doesn’t own the jewelry…They are just the means to sell it……What I do love, and has take much of my time, is my blog and face book. It’s a fun way to keep in touch with all of you, and a way for us to interact and discuss clothing which ultimately is what the purpose of designing clothes is all about. I have no way of telling how many of you read my posts, but as long as I get feed back I will continue. I have created another avenue to create for all of you…..more of a master class, and a sharing of ideas which is just as fulfilling for me.

      1. Nancy (AKA TheOwl)

OK, Louis, that final sentence sounds INTRIGUING!!!! Can’t wait to hear what is cooking in that marvelously fertile brain of yours to share with us next. 🙂 I know you cannot tell if you are losing audience or not on a blog but at least you might make a note of those who still post here. I’m betting there are a LOT of us still out here who regularly check in at Chez Louis!! 🙂

  54. Sierra

Just a comment to the ladies – I ordered the double layer pull on pants and the moss crepe tank. Not really a revolutionary idea to put them together, but for me they work well as a jumpsuit stand-in. I like the idea of jumpsuits but struggle with finding the right one – too casual, too dressy, leg length wrong, hard to get off, and so on. The tank is a good length to pair with the pants, it’s cool enough for humid summer days, and can be dressed up or down easily.

    1. Kim S

Sierra, I love this idea actually. I struggle with jumpsuits as well for all of those reasons so it’s nice to know there’s alternatives!

  55. Andres

Hi Louis. I just ordered the wine pineapple necklace. I was looking at your blog and see that there used to be a swirl that coordinated. I cannot find the swirl necklace anywhere. Can you recommend another that would give a similar look? I have the zodiac. Maybe that will work?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Sorry Andres, unfortunately there is nothing avail that I would suggest…..the best I could offer would be to keep checking on ebay.

  56. Bernadette

    Ladies,

The jewelry count is up to 95. It’s been teetering in the mid 50’s for a few weeks. The Byzantine is back, Samburu, even the black pave tassel. I’m sure it won’t last long!!! Hurry!

    1. Sylvia

I picked up the Byzantium. I hope… this will be the 3rd time I’ve tried to buy it, and it ended up twice not being available. 😉 and the ice Venetian. Thanks for the heads up!

      1. Bernadette

😁 I hope it they ship it to you. The same happened to me with the Lord of the Rings necklace in gold a few months back. My question is… why do they hold it and then release it. And if it is all returns why isn’t marked accordingly?

  57. Marie

Heads up If anyone was thinking of getting another color in the short trench coat. It’s on a Lunch Time Special today for only $38! It’s a total giveaway! I doubt any will remain after that price! I picked up my third color when I saw that! I love that lightweight jacket and have been wearing the denim color a lot this spring. I know I will wear all three colors of those timeless lovelies. Just had to get them all!

  58. Pratt

Hello Louis and all the fashionistas here,
I am in a color combo dilemma and immediately thought of this forum to get feedback. Do you think these two in the picture pair well ? https://drive.google.com/file/d/17nKhjsFexscR4ZCQOLe_MLlskw4U8emg/view?usp=drivesdk
I can hear Louis saying you need to tie it up with some jewelry or another accessory. In that case would this work? It’s for a garden wedding and do you think this will work?
Other no brainer combos are lilac/purple – yellow or orange.

Hope you are keeping well, Louis. Been reading all your posts and it’s wonderful to see clothes of the past. I think it’s safe to say you are the king of colors. But I do miss all the outfit inspiration videos and posts. Hope to see some videos soon. Thanks. Take care.

    1. Bernadette

      Hi Pratt,

My opinion for what it is worth is… I would wear gold shoes and long Gold Linea necklaces and let the handbag be the pop of color with that dress. Or you could do silver shoes and silver necklaces.

I always have to put the outfit on to see what ‘fits’. 😉

Let us know what you decide especially with a pic if you can!!!

I miss Linea already. I keep wondering what Louis would have had for us this spring and summer.

      1. Bernadette

Or white shoes and jewelry. I just looked at the dress again and pictured the tablet necklace with it in white.

      2. Pratt

Thank you Bernadette. I like your idea of keeping it simple with gold jewelry. I feel a bit more confident now that the color combo is not overly crazy haha. Will post a pic after the event 😊

      3. Pratt

I know, nothing exciting to look forward to. But I have tons of linea and haven’t worn much since covid. So it’s like new stash to look forward to. 😊

    2. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Pratt….I think Bernadette’s suggestions are spot on. I would do silver or gold sandals and jewelry. A big hoop and bracelets maybe all you need on that print if you don’t have the right necklace. I love the pop of turquoise. I just question the shape and size of the bag…..is it too big?….is it too sporty for that dress?? If the dress were short a sporty bag would be fine, but with a long flowing dress it may be a little big and casual. I do like that the bag is draped which does work with the dress. All that said the color may compensate for the style.I would prefer a smaller shoulder bag with a metal chain or narrow leather strap or a clutch. I do love the two colors together. I really don’t think a necklace is necessary unless it is the most perfect one…..Important earrings and bangles would be all you need.

      1. Pratt

Thank you Louis for your feedback. I wasn’t thinking simple earlier and yes I agree simple gold jewelry should be enough. Two votes for the color combo makes it seem less crazy to me now .. and the bag isn’t big at all. It fits only the essentials. I think I zoomed it out a bit in the earlier picture. Here is what the bag actually looks like in proportion to the person wearing it https://www.saksfifthavenue.com/product/staud-moon-leather-hobo-bag-0400012542757.html?dwvar_0400012542757_color=BRIGHT%20BLUE

I somehow cannot wear tiny evening bags with a chain strap. The chain keeps digging into my bony shoulders.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

After seeing the bag size I think it will work, but hold it the way the model is holding it. Don’t try to shoulder it….that would look sportier and wrong with the dress.

        2. Louis Dell'Olio

Pratt….I think Sheesh is right…..a hobo bag just doesn’t look right. You should look at the resource for bags she suggests……even a small silver or gold bag to go with your shoes or they might have a fun color who’s shape would be more appropriate. BTW if you don’t have metallic sandals and small clutch bag that would not be a waste of money as they go with EVERYTHING.

          1. Pratt

Thank you for all the feedback, Sheesh, Kim and Louis. Now that you mention hobo, I guess you are all correct. I was only thinking of using a pop of color bag and didn;t pay attention to the style.
I have my heart set on using a color pop, so may be a red, yellow (coz that’s all I have in my collection haha).
What do you all think of this – https://www.mlouye.com/products/mini-woven-bag-yellow ? Not too sure about the grey handle though, but it’s removable.

            1. Louis Dell'Olio

NO….too too much with the dress. That bag should be the focal point of an all black outfit….you need a simple solid smooth leather small bag in any color you want…..almost….I went to QVC and searched for “dressy bags”, and this is what came up. The shapes are all good but 98% were in gold or silver…..A445605 a yellow woven paper clutch….it’s the only bag in color…kind of fun……A370239 violet?…..A429916…A428218…A433656….A376223….A433646….A442014 silver……A435552 silver or gold. These might not appeal to you what the shapes and styles work better with the long dress.

            2. Kim S

Pratt, I would have to say the yellow woven square shape would not work for my eye with your dress. I don’t know, it says “jeans” to me or something and not just yellow. I looked at all of Louis’s suggestions from QVC.com and for me A376223 would be cool. Since you have your heart set on a color, maybe the citrine would be fun with your dress? Any metallic would works of course, but this was my pick for a style with color. Have fun accessorizing!

            3. Pratt

Wow, Louis thanks a ton for taking the time to look through for options. Really appreciate it, in fact honored. I like the citrine and violet one the most. I’ll mull over for a day or two and then get one. And I agree I have to get a neutral metallic one so I don’t have to think too much in future hah.

    3. Kim S

Pratt, what a lovely dress! Gold or silver jewelry and shoes perfection! I have to agree with Louis about the bag though. For my eye, a smaller bag with padded chain would be better with this dress but you have to shop your closet, right? The color is wonderful though. Looking forward to photos after your event. I’ve been stocking up on Linea to wear who knows where so…enjoy your event!

    4. Sheesh

Hi, Pratt. The dress is simply gorgeous, but the bag is too casual and too big. It’s a hobo bag which by nature is very casual. I agree with Louis, just fabulous statement earring and bracelets–no necklace required which would distract from the dress. Look for a dressy, small bag with a gold chain. Check out the Zebrum brand of evening bags on Amazon. Five star ratings–run about $25 and many options to choose from.

  59. Mary Linthicum

    Dear Louis,
I was heart broken to learn that you were no longer on QVC. I enjoyed your presentations so much. You have such a keen eye for detail and had such an elegant line of clothing. Everything from your clothing to jewelry was created to perfection. I just recently learned that H by Halston which was another designer I liked is now on HSN but using the name H Halston. Would this be a possibility that you would consider? I realize that with the pandemic, many people have been working from home and doing meetings by Zoom. But, the country is opening back up. The men wear suits and the ladies dress up in office attire where I work. Your line of clothing is very much needed because you design for all sizes and shapes and your clothing is very office appropriate. Also, you designed elegant clothing for going to special events. I think QVC made a very big mistake. On a different note; I watch a lot of Youtube videos. There are some videos of Jac modeling your clothes on QVC when you type QVC Linea in the search bar and you of course with the models. i watch a lot of cooking videos and others. Maybe you could make Youtube videos telling us stories of your past, travels, or if you cook, cooking videos. Stories about how you came to be where you are, the designs you thought about, the manufacturing process, etc. I am sure you have many stories. I miss seeing you. Many of the viewers get attached to the designers, hosts, and models. It is very sad for me to see some of the designers not there anymore and the hosts. We become more attached than family. I wish the very best for you in whatever you decide to do.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Mary, as you know the name Halston is owned by a company and the line is designed by a group. My manufacture, Elaine Lai, is also closing her company, and without Elaine I wouldn’t consider a start up. It’s best to leave on top…..not that leaving QVC was my choice. They are going in a much different direction.

    Hi Louis,
Thank you for asking. I am a fine artist. My “favorite medium” changes depending in the day you ask me. LOL. It really depends on what I am trying to accomplish. Abstracts- Acrylic, Landscapes-Oil or Watercolor and so on. Lately, I’ve been drawn to collage and mixed media. It is ALL good! Here is my website portfolio in case you or others out there would like to see some of my work. http://edmondsfineart.com/Home.html

As far as color in fashion goes, I tend go go with the “conventional wisdom” of what colors go together or drawing one of the colors out of a print, instead of just going for it and seeing what works. Your suggestion gave me the small push that I needed to break free! I am grateful for that and happy that you take such an interest in your customers and readers!

I hope that you continue your blog forever! It is such fun to look back into your archives. I really liked the excerpts from the Anne Klein lookbooks, it is all so incredibly chic and timeless!

AJ…..WOW you are seriously good!!!! Loved your work. Do you live near the ocean. R U from California? You should have no problem putting colors together for your clothing just from looking at your work! Just don’t be afraid to do it……

        Hi Louis,
Thank you for your kind words. I am glad you loved my work. It is such a high compliment coming from such an incredible talent as yourself.

Yes, I am in California, very close to a popular surfing beach. I used to paint right on the beach, but now I am trying to avoid sun damage. I have thousands of reference photos that I have taken. I work from my own “work”. LOL

I hope that you will start painting again and show us your work on this site!

The hardest part about painting again after so many years…..is starting!

    Hi Louis,
Love your coin jewelry and get so many comments on it! I know you said that your coins were made by computer enhancement of photographs of ancient coins. Can you tell us more about any of the original coins? How old? Roman Empire? I’d love to know more about them. – Nan

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Nan, I googled “Ancient Roman Coin pictures”, and a slew of pictures came up of Roman Empire coins. I just printed the ones that I liked the best and brought them to the factory that made the pieces. Then I worked with the 3-D computer fellow and we picked the ones that he thought would be most successful. All I can tell you about the coins selected is that they were all authentic Roman coins. I didn’t make notes of the individual coins, because it wasn’t necessary for what my needs were. I’m so happy you like them. I think they are some of the prettiest “fashion” coin necklaces I have ever seen.

I LOVE the coin jewelry also! I probably wear them the most of all my jewelry.

    Hi Louis,
I have the crinkle georgette boho skirt and blouse set in wine. They are beautiful, but very dark, so I think of it as Fall fashion. I wanted a lighter colored set but the skirts would always sell out in the smallest size. What can I put with the dark wine color to make a Spring/Summer appropriate outfit?

    Thank You!

    AJ

P.S. So sorry to see your line go. I especially love the jewelry! My favorite is the Inca necklace in bronze. It gets a lot of wear!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear AJ….I never meant the wine set to be thought of as a one season outfit. You can wear the wine top with Alabaster, light khaki, tan or any similar shade I have done. For a more safari look I would like it with my loden crop pant or any shade of olive. Again, your choice of accessories and footwear are going to make all of the difference. A sandal, or wedge or even an animal print sandal like the ones Sam Edleman sells will immediately make it look more spring and summer. Of course ivory or white will also look good. The shirt can be worn open with the tank or it can be belted with a fun sporty leather belt in a luggage or south western look too. Also the jewelry you choose will make a big difference. The Voodoo necklace, turquoise and any of the coins will brighten it up. There are many options in jewelry to play with. The skirt can be worn with many tee shirt colors and different tops. A simple cotton button down in white or khaki tan with the sleeves rolled up and belted will always look great. Sleeveless or short sleeved shirts will immediately make it look like spring/summer. Shop your closets. I bet you will find many different thinks you can put them with. Don’t be afraid of mixing colors too.

        Dear Louis,
Thank you for the fabulous styling tips for my wine colored set! Fortunately, I own all the items (or similar) that you suggested. I tried them out today and every one looked great on me! I also tried a number of different colored tops with the skirt. I should have known there would be so many great color pairings since I am an artist, but I was especially surprised to find that a pale blue colored tee was a winner (paired with your voodoo necklace and leopard print sandal!) A white tank with your gold fish necklace, metallic belt and gold sandals was also fab!
Thank you for continuing your blog and taking the time to reply to everyone’s comments. You truly are a treasure!

See AJ… you really didn’t need my help at all! LOL With an artists eye for color all you have to do is play with different combinations and accessories…..it’s sort of doing a painting! What kind of artist are you? Are you a commercial artist or a fine artist or both? What medium do you prefer. I have been procrastinating about starting to paint again, but as you know it’s a lot of work and dedication.
