“FIRST STOP-LONDON!”

HELLO EVERYONE!

We are home at last and couldn’t be happier!! We had a great trip…..London was wonderful as always and Vienna was absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

…………..First stop London. We  had a uneventful flight [just the way I like it], landed, got our bags….no problems, and off to the Dorchester Hotel. We were shown to our lovely room, and as we always do on a cross Atlantic trip, took showers and headed out. We find we overcome jet lag better if we don’t nap and just make a full day of it, have an early dinner and go to bed. We took a walk along the Thames, on the side where the giant Ferris wheel is. There is a promenade that goes on for miles, and along the promenade are restaurants, performers of all kinds and the Tate Modern, which is the famous modern art museum……we stopped in and took a look…….some of the exhibits were wonderful….and some left me scratching my head! The city was quite full with lots of tourists speaking many different languages, but the most were Chinese. They travel in hordes with their interpreter, who usually speaks extremely LOUD…..in the museums it can become very distracting. Our hotel was surprisingly empty. We were told they were fully booked for the Olympics with people coming in from corporations who are donors to the Olympic teams. The hotel has a huge Arab clientele, but it was  Ramadan, so no Arab guests….yet. They were expecting to be fully booked again when we returned for out last few days. We always try to see a show or two and on this trip we decided to see “Phantom of the Opera” again. It has been over 10 years since we had seen it in NYC and we thought it would be fun to see the London production…..it was wonderful. The second show we decided to see was “MATILDA”. Bob, as in “Mackie”, had seen it and highly recommended it. There are pictures above of the set [I got reprimanded for taking a picture inside the theater, but I knew you all would enjoy seeing this wonderful and creative set], the Marquee and Jac standing in front of the Theater….as a man steps in front of her! The show was terrific and we heard it was coming to Broadway……we highly recommend it………………….NEXT STOP……….VIENNA!

I just missed you in London by a day! Gorgeous weather indeed. Please tell Jac that my most fervent wish these days is that she be asked to curate a collection of shoes for the Q. Love those silver sandals. My jewelry will be delivered tomorrow. Can’t wait.

    Dear Louis and Jac,

Glad to hear you’re back home, safe and sound, and had such a wonderful trip! Your London photos bring back some great memories for me; especially that river promenade. And how cool to see the Olympic rings hang from the bridge …

Welcome home; you were missed 🙂

Welcome back, Louis and Jac. Some of your new jewelry pieces are now up for order–the love knot necklaces, the multi-cross necklace and earrings, the bead necklace and the cuff, plus the multi-stone chandelier earrings. My order is in!

You must let me know how you like everything……I really like the way they all work together……it all coordinates but still doesn’t look like it all matches …….which makes it look very individual……you know what I mean?

Hi, Louis. I’ll definitely let you know when my jewelry order arrives. Now, I have a special request, please. Can you design us a Perfectly Pink pearl earring to go with the pearls? Thanks so much for considering my request.

        All the best, Sheesh

          Dear Sheesh,
I did make a very nice companion pearl button earring but it was not bought???I don’t know why they don’t want to buy it. I have told them there are many requests. Since the necklaces have been so successful you would think they would want to pick it up.

    Welcome home, Louis and Jac!

I’m happy to read that you are safely home and had a wonderful time. I’m also taking on board your technique for dealing with jet lag! It looks like there is a lively street scene in London this time of the year but also hope it wasn’t too hot, as I know it has been in Vienna!

I enjoyed watching your second show on my laptop and waved to both of you :-). Thanks for sneaking a shot of the theater set, very atmospheric.

I also look forward to seeing more sneaks for your Sept. show!

    Welcome Back!!!!

Thank you for the spectacular photos. London was never this sunny or colorful when I was there. Jac looks beautiful, as always. What style!

Thank you for the tip on Mathilda. I love Roald Dahl and look forward to seeing this play. Thank you, too, for letting me know about the Tate Modern Art Museum. I hadn’t been there yet. Though I don’t like all of it, modern art is always interesting, to say the least!

You are so kind for posting these. I would love to know how to make this kind of online photo compilation. I look forward to seeing the Vienna pics as well.

We were very lucky….weather wise…..sunny and very warm. We also went to the TATE BRITISH museum just to see one of our favorite paintings in the world……the Sargent painting of the two little girls in the garden with the flowers and the lit Japanese lanterns. I can’t remember the exact name but the title is the name of 4 flowers. It is hypnotic.

      1. Chris/Jazzmom

Its called Carnation Lily Lily Rose. Yes, it is an impressive piece– did you hear the back story about this painting? It took Sargent about 2 years to do this painting and every night over the summer where he was staying with Millets he would paint at just the appropriate time to get the light he wanted to portray in the portrait. He originally used the 5 year old daughter of the Millets and had to switch to the Barnard’s two girls who were 7 and 11 at the time and were able to keep still and pose for that time frame he needed.
Did you see the Ophelia painting also in the same gallery by Millais? I mentioned to the guide that the painting contained pansies and when translated from the French it means (think of me) Symbolism at its best in these Victorian Era paintings.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Yes, I know the story behind the painting. He even added the flowers to the painting that weren’t really there. Yes we did see the Ophelia painting. In Vienna we went to see the Klimt exhibit that was beautiful. Many paintings I had never seen before.

          1. Kate

I adore Klimt–those nudes! those golden yellows! glorious. Your love knot necklace is kinda Klimt…all those swirls and circles.
