“SPRING 2020 FORECAST”

I have been catching up on the new Spring runway shows on “VOGUE . COM”…..When you have a spare second give it a look see….I think you will find it interesting! So far the Americans and the Brits have shown. They are all off to Italy and the shows should be posted soon….then PARIS……………ONE THING IS FOR SURE! It’s starting in a big way this Fall 2019, but it’s going to EXPLODE for Spring 2020…….BLAZERS ARE “THE JACKET”………Forget every other kind. I barely saw anything but BLAZERS. Most shows started with models wearing BLAZERS. They came in  checks, prints, tuxedos [mine is still avail if you haven’t gotten one…..it’s fabulous!]….You describe the type of blazer and it was on the runway…..but mostly PLAIDS and SOLIDS!!!!! ……I TOLD YOU SO!!!! I have never seen so many blazers on runways in my lifetime……..Two years ago there was scarcely one, but I told you they were coming. I could feel it in my bones…….Most of the blazers were classic in shape…Some had trendy sleeves and tricky details that will be great for one season and then feel dated. They are good for the woman with an unlimited expense account…..90%  of the blazers are long….very few short ones….all are beautifully tailored…….The colors ranged from you classic black, white and navy to all kinds of colors depending on the designers message. I just watched the Burberry show, one of their best in years and the colors were BLACK, WHITE, TAN and lots and lots of DOVE GREY…Dove Grey mixed with Tan and white in one outfit started the show and it was a beautifully executed blazer suit………The DOVE GREY….think my Lamb leather jacket…..it’s an exact match!….Besides Blazers on the Burberry runway there were TRENCHES TRENCHES and more TRENCHES…..lots of scarf prints as accents………..Lots of what was on the runways was also pure TRASH…….Does anyone really need to be shocked fashion wise??? There’s enough “shocking” going in in the world as it is! After you see one or two shows like this it becomes one blurring bore! I have to say the shows that I remember that I’ve seen so far were very wearable with beautiful details and fabrics. Oscar de la Renta was one of these shows. I thought it was much better then want this designing duo team has offered in the past. With this show the spirit of the house was well represented without look retro. Michael Kors always has good things though I found it lacking in newness. It relied too much on  cliche preppy though there were some beautiful things. I always think of his line as a paler version of RL . Can’t think of who else I liked. In England I liked Victoria Beckman. She’s getting better and better with each collection…..REAL CLOTHES for real women…and Burberry was outstanding……..One thing is for sure if you are looking for beautiful wearable clothes that will last for years they were well represented….If your taste goes more for the outrageous you will be happy too…………………..Remember one thing…..These clothes range from the upper hundreds and way up into the thousands…..I look forward to see what the Italians come up with……They have the best workmanship in the business……….Many designer lines from all over the world including the French are produced in Italy……I was asked to check out the blazers being featured at Neimans……One designer in particular has a plethora of beautiful blazers in a range of fabrics. What I found surprising was the majority of them were polyester or poly rayon and they were mostly $600 and up! Excuse me, but I’ll put my Plaid Big Deal up against any of these and mine is a poly/rayon span blend for a fraction of the price!…….Ladies this is the TIME to get on the BLAZER BAND WAGON…..Be ahead of the curve instead of a follower……don’t lag behind……This is one of the biggest realistic trends I’ve seen in years……..I only wish I could have offered you even more blazers!……………….enjoy……………………….much Love………………………..Louis

    Mr Dell’Olio,

I have purchased multiple pieces of your fall line from QVC in the Caramel color. Petite pants, embroidered top, lambskin leather/sweater, and the long trench. Unfortunately the trench arrived today sans belt. What is a trench without a belt? Lacking…. I called QVC customer service immediately and was offered a return (there are no more available) or a $25.00 refund. I have put together this ensemble and would love to keep all pieces if I could only get a belt to match the trench coat. QVC could only offer those two solutions. Is there anyway possible you have a representative that could locate a trench coat belt for me to make this item complete? Item was A343462 Petite 12 in Caramel. I am thrilled with the line and was looking forward to traveling with the pieces this fall.

I would appreciate any assistance you could offer as QVC is not offering any help to complete this coat.
    Thank-you for your time. Sincerely,
    Teri Ellis

Dear Teri…..First I can’t believe they shipped you a coat with a missing belt? I will immediately contact my manufacturer and see what they can do. Since this coat wasn’t reordered I don’t know if there will be any material to make one, but you never know. When I know you will know!

I was going to add a note but Goldie76 said it best!

Count me among those who enjoy reading your designer’s view of what is coming down the runways. Like Amanda, I find it impossible to discard any Linea. My cupboards, etc., groan under Linea weight. (Happy groans, though.) Thank you for your time and talent, Louis.

In a world of rapid change, you stand for what remains after the pretenders of fashion collapse and fade away.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      Well Goldie…..I hope something can be said for longevity! I started in 1970….that’s 50 years coming up……It’s been a long…..long….long time. I must admit sometimes I am real tired :}

I looked at the Vogue site. Am I wrong to say I saw a lot of 60’s inspired creations? Yesterday I did a massive closet purge (biggest one ever). No Linea left the building. It never goes out of style, I never part with any of it. Thanks for giving us styles we can wear year after year.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Amanda, I can’t honestly say that when i looked at the shows the 60s came to mind, but maybe you’re seeing something that I didn’t. Glad to hear you Linea’s made the cut.

Wonderful synopsis of collections. I know of two of your plaid blazers that will be coming to me! Fall is just my season to really buy. Thank you for all you do for us.

What exciting news and what a great season this will be! My closet LOVES Linea and always welcomes more – especially blazers.

We are all so excited for next Wednesday to come. My black crepe gauze jacket (wait list) is out for delivery. YEA!!!! I have all three colors, and plan on getting two jackets next week. Your blazers are the best; so sorry that I didn’t get every color of the Blazer w/ Seaming & Button Detail (A229475). They are just classics. Louis, you are best!!!!

Louis- I agree with the others-I always enjoy reading your observations on fashion (and life). I meant to ask before-but did you happen to see the CNN film on Halston?
If you did-do you have any comments you’d like to share? Thanks for all your beautiful designs, really looking forward to your next shows.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Diane…yes I did see the Halston CNN special…twice. I have lots to say about it, but I’m off to meetings all day, but I will post on it….I just found the whole story terribly sad, but a tale that has repeated itself many times where designers are concerned when corporations take over

Good reading with my coffee and sitting at my desk first thing in the morning. Honestly I have never stopped wearing blazers and or plaids, they always seem in style at least in NYC where you pretty much can get away with anything and people do try as I observe….LOL. Looking forward to seeing your plaid blazer! I received the dove leather jacket and it is gorgeous I already own the black and both are in my front closet so that I grab and wear as soon as the weather cools down….the dove grey will be first believe me.

    Louis,

It’s always so fun to read your posts and opinions. I will have to take a look at the fashions for myself when I get a chance. I am so looking forward to your plaid blazers and whatever else you bring us. Wonderful quality and designs at realistic (for me) prices. We are so lucky to have you!

    Melissa
