“CATHY CAME TO PAY ME A VISIT”

………………..Cathy came to pay me a Christmas visit. For those of you who may not know Cathy, I have been working with her arm in arm on the jewelry collections for years!!!! Cathy makes sure it all gets done! She took some photos of me in front of my tree and my fireplace in the “gathering room”…..where we gather and have a good time! Cathy brought me many many tins of all kinds of Christmas cookies that she baked…..yummy…….I was wearing my mask, YOU MUST ALL WEAR your masks! Wearing mine has become so much easier with the attached chain I’m selling on QVC…….Honestly, it was Cathy’s idea, and I thought it was a terrific one. I wanted it in MATTE BLACK, so we added that color to the selection, gold, silver, gunmetal, and my matte black. This is totally a functional piece and not a fine piece of costume jewelry, though, if you wish, you can wear it as a curb link chain necklace…….you could even wear more than one at a time…..I like that it has THREE purposes………it holds your mask, it has little black elastic loops that you can easily attach to the “Lobster Claws” to hold glasses and it can be used as a necklace. The initial reaction, and sales were so good we have reordered them. “They” are saying mask wearing will definitely be required through most of 2021!………Later on that evening I took Cathy to one of my favorite restaurants……..”TARRY LODGE” in Westport Ct……sadly there were on 6 people including Cathy and myself in the entire restaurant. After dinner I took Cathy to see downtown Westport. She had never been there. I was shocked to see how many stores were closed on the main shopping street, and the buildings were totally empty. This was not what I was expecting to see especially in Westport which is a wealthy community……..Unfortunately, if the government doesn’t get help for these businesses QUICK I’m afraid there are going to be many many more empty store fronts. I wish this current president would stop playing with peoples lives and get the money to them pronto! His antics drive me crazy!!! I hope he’s having a good time golfing in Florida while Americans are trying to survive!! It may not be enough money to solve all of the problems, but it’s a start, and better than nothing when people can’t pay their rent or get food for their families…..I know, with a new president, 2021 will definitely be better. At the very least he won’t be jerking around playing with people’s lives……..Be safe my lovelies, and wear your masks!………………..much Love…………….Louis

(Sardonic) Yes, we are the ones who tried to “escort” the bus of the opposing party’s nominee when they arrived in Texas. We cared so much that our vehicles nearly stripped the paint off the bus, much to the terror of the travelers in the bus. We are the ones who tore down and destroyed the “Black Lives Matter” signs from three historic Black churches in Washington, D.C., during the most recent MAGA rally. And then, we egged on the counter-protesters with our drunken taunts. Oh, and yes, our leaders believe that hate-tilting groups are “fine people.”

“Trump’s departure will prompt cries of relief in many parts of the country, but there is now vital work to be done. The past four years have taught us that the American system of government is no match for a President who, like Trump, will not hesitate to break long-established rules and norms. During his four years in office, the forty-fifth President has lied on a daily basis; purged officials who challenged him; used his vast social-media following to intimidate other elected Republicans; charged the federal government millions of dollars for the use of his private businesses; awarded prominent positions to his family members; pardoned some of his closest political allies; and, finally, tried to overturn a perfectly legitimate election. Conceivably, he could run for office again in four years. What can be done to Trump-proof the Presidency against him or an acolyte?” (Taken from an article by John Cassidy)

Louis I love your things and appreciate your fashion blog so much.
But since it has gone political, I am through.
We have lived in Europe and have traveled extensively.
There is no place is as precious as our USA…with all of its flaws.
I love our country and pray that we will heal.
Your blog was one of my happy places, but I see too many vicious comments here…
God bless you dear Louis and Happy New Year.
Good luck in everything you do.

So happy for you that Cathy was able to visit, and that you were able to take her to a locally owned restaurant and enjoy a meal together. We here in WNY(Buffalo) are under Orange Zone restrictions, which means NO indoor dining, only take out, which is hurting our formerly burgeoning small restaurant businesses terribly; so many talented young people are out of work, and while most of us are pretty dedicated to doing what we can to keep things going, it’s simply not enough. I know what you mean about how shocking it was seeing so many small shops closed in Westport; these are the “small businesses”, which SURELY should have included the restaurant industry that truly employ so many Americans, that all that initial federal money should have been going to help, not another corporate hand out when Americans are suffering so badly and so many can’t even pay their rent on their homes OR the businesses they have worked so hard to build up. Thankfully, in NYS, the governor has extended the moratorium on evictions, but at the same time, the Unemployment Office of the State Labor Dept is so backed up that many, including our own son in NYC, have not even gotten their first unemployment check from day ONE because of the millions of people who have been out of work since March. He had savings, having worked for a large IT firm, but he and 500 others of its employees were laid off, no one is hiring yet in NYC or anywhere else, and he will soon be out of money. ALL the states are now broke because of this pandemic and the burden that was fully laid upon their shoulders, while the President of the United States golfs & tries to rip our democracy to shreds for his own benefit. The People have now spoken through the only and best method we have, and, with the grace of God and any luck at all, we will have been in time. Thank you for speaking out as the decent, moral, and thoughtful person that you are. I knew the minute I read your commentary there would be a couple of “ladies” who would need the smelling salts, but c’est la vie.

Your voice is the only one I hear calling people names, labeling them, and acting like a complete lunatic. Louis didn’t turn this into a brouhaha, you did. And for the record, this is his Blog, carrying his name, and solely owned by him, allowing him to say whatever he pleases, and delete whatever poison he sees fit. I have been a part of a Linea ladies group for 10 years now where we chat daily and span all sides of the political spectrum. I have never read anything like what you posted here today and not only is it in extremely poor taste, frankly, the magnitude of your rancor toward people you know nothing about is frightening.

      1. justina

WOW, calling someone a complete LUNATIC is okay. Wow. Yes, Louis did start this. Louis waited until he no longer had a clothing line on QVC to talk politics on his blog. Apparently he no longer needs the “Linea Ladies” that are Republicans. I have been a part of the Linea ladies for longer than you and I have never known of a daily chat of all the sides of the political spectrum. And I have read worst, in fact it was a few years ago at Christmas. If you have been reading this blog that long you would have known. It was unkind to one of our family. Apparently, we are no longer a family. Louis decided to do the HONORABLE thing now, to tell us his thoughts. Well, good for him. To state he has no hatred he should reread his reply to Grace. It was hateful and no need for it. I do not believe Louis is a hateful human being. I have believed in the past that Louis was a kind, giving, loving human being. I loved Louis. Now I am greatly disappointed in Louis. I am glad he will have time to grow, look at himself, and do what he will enjoy. I do not like the fact that we are a country that no longer has respect for our president, police officers, and officials. and to you, Goldie there is rioting in Portland, Or and other cities that are Democratic. We are not on a bus, we live it everyday. Trump is not responsible for it or the pandemic. And yes, Trump maybe golfing. He deserves it, he has been beaten up for 4 years, by the media, and the Obama administration who lied to him. Obama was in Hawaii or another country all of the time if you remember correctly. It is amazing how we forget. JUST LIKE HOW YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN WE WERE FAMILY. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. I AM NO LONGER PROUD TO BE A LINEA LADY. I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE THE DAY. HAPPY NEW YEAR.U

        1. Chris/Jazzmom

I reread his reply to Grace & perhaps you should reread it because it wasn’t hateful.

This is Louis’ reply to Grace:
Dear Grace, I’m sure there are some who may disagree with us, but his shenanigans, and his playing cat and mouse with the lives of American people has gone on long enough. Why did he do it? because his ego is so incredibly big that he still had to show at the 11th hour that he still has power. He knew all along that he was going to sign it. He would never have a government shut down at the end of his tenure….good riddance indeed….to him and his whole corrupt family.

          1. justina

Thank you, but you didn’t think good riddance to him and his whole corrupt family was uncalled for. Well, I think good riddance to him was fine. His whole corrupt family is not okay. That is like me saying something about your family and love ones. I would not. Nor anyone I know. No matter how I feel about the man. It is amazing to me that some people will support the Clintons, Obama, and now Biden. I will not go into what I believe will happen out of respect to those who believe differently. I respect you. I respect and love all of you. I also have respect for myself and my beliefs. This is not how you treat family. I have been a part of this family, know it or not since I received my green embroidered and my black embroidered coats, my green with turquoise trim suede jacket, and others years and years ago. The point is, I love my sister and she is a Democrat. I do not belittle her or her president and she will try not to speak of mine. THAT IS RESPECT. AND LOVE. WE ALL DESERVE THAT. Thank you for being kind. HAPPY NEW YEAR. WITH LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

            1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Justina…..,I think you are right. Expressing my feelings about Trump was one thing, but discussing his family was wrong and for that I am sorry. I have absolutely nothing against any republicans. My brother, my sister in law all of their adult children and many of my cousins are Republican. We do respect each others opinions. I even agree with many things Republicans do, and I don’t always agree with everything Democrats believe in. I do not follow the “party line” if I don’t believe their stance is something I can agree with. However, there has never been a president that has continuously said such vile things as Trump….having nothing to do with being a republican. Even my brother, who is a staunch republican, has said many times to me he wishes Trump would just “shut up”. So many times his staff has had to clean up what he has said. This has nothing at all to do with being a republican or democrat. It has all to do with being a descent human being.

So glad you had a wonderful visit with Cathy, your jewelry get-it-done person. Masks are very important for everyone to wear. It shows you care about others & yourself. Hope we all get the vaccine soon so all can be protected from this awful virus.

    1. Karen in WI

So glad you had a lovely visit with Kathy! All the ladies from the jewelry company seem so sweet and I am so very thankful for all the jewelry I have because of you all!

Louis, I couldn’t agree more with your assessment and I have had to speak up myself a few times these past 4 years as I could not choose silence. I will always choose to love my neighbors and offer a helping hand, as Jesus taught us. I am so hopeful for us to turn the corner in January and look forward to a kinder, more compassionate, and honorable country that I can be proud of again.

I pray that we all have a healthy 2021! Hugs and lots of love to you Louis, and all the sweet ladies here.

  13. Jules

There is a huge difference between following a political PARTY (people) or CANDIDATE (person) and following the teachings of life, as is taught in all the major religions of the world. One of the first is “I am my brothers keeper.” How having compassion and concern for the less fortunate, speaking up against injustice and bigotry, became a political stance and not just common decency, well, it boggles my mind. The German people made this choice in the 30s and 75 MILLION people died because so many were willing to go along with one individual’s agenda of “Us vs Them.” If you don’t read history here’s a spoiler: The ones who stood up against separatism and demonizing of others have became our world’s greatest Heroes. The ones enabled it became our most reviled Villains. I don’t need a candidate or political party to tell me right from wrong, and that love, compassion, and understanding trumps Us vs Them through every single moment of history. Thank you for heartfelt comments Louis. Your voice is needed. Jules

    Dear LibsRnuts,
May I recommend A389959, one of my favorite jackets. Most colors are sold out, however, the Caramel is truly beautiful.
Under that lovely jacket, blouse A384501, black. Black is always a must have.
And then the Whisper Knit Skirt, A384497, black.
The first item should be dry cleaned.
The next two items wash on cold cycle, lay on a towel to dry.
I wish you well, have a Happy New Year.

  15. Carol

Louis, I’m so happy to be putting 2020 behind us all! Turning the page is long overdue and extremely welcome. We try to do our part to keep two of our favorite small restaurants in business by ordering delivery from them every week. This has been so hard on many businesses that employee low paid hourly workers. So many who can not afford to stay home and be safe. This pandemic comes on top of all the ordinary struggles we face in daily life. Losing so many people day in and day out, and we still have not as a society learned our lesson.
I will be ushering in the New Year by purchasing one of your Superstar cuffs. Thank you for making them in sizes. The small bangle was so good, I got both colors. I can only have one cuff, so I’m torn between colors. My natural inclination is silver, but the gold is stunning, too. I just received the navy Carina necklace. Bravo on that one.
Best wishes for a healthy 2021. We are blessed with patience in our old age and know that this, too, will pass. My husband and I were remembering the other night lining up on our school playgrounds for the polio sugar cubes. We’ve come full circle it seems.

HI, Louis! How lovely that Cathy was able to pay you a visit! The most difficult thing for us here has been to not be able to see our family, friends, and other loved ones. But we follow the recommended directions, not only protect ourselves, but also to do our part in stemming the spread of this dreadful virus. Sadly, many do not do the same. The failure of many small businesses is yet another of the tragic consequences of this pandemic. Here where we live there is a wonderful sense of community and robust efforts to keep our local enterprises afloat, along with meeting the needs of the truly needy. Our grocery stores are no longer safe zones, and we get our prepared food from local caterers and restaurants. Local farmers are also bringing in foodstuff to a few local businesses, where we can pick it up curbside. Food pantries have sprung up all over as have warm clothing projects. Our local university has opened its unoccupied dorms to the homeless. We have shopped locally for Christmas and sent presents by mail this year. Having worked for two years in one of the poorest barrios on the northern coast of Colombia, I have seen up close and personal what severe economic stress does to people. This humanitarian crisis should be viewed exactly for what it is, a matter of inequity and justice. My first impulse is always to look to what I can do to help, and that includes our body politic, of which we are all members. I’m sure it comes at no surprise to you that I completely agree with your assessment of POTUS and that which was also shared by others! I also hope and pray that our country will right itself with our incoming administration. With God’s help we can do it, but we all must work together. But Federal funds are desperately needed and long overdue. God help us!

  17. Teri

Let’s have peace among friends. I have a positive note. I spend my time in a small town, a small city, and large suburb. I actually only know of one small privately owned business that has gone out. There are lots of new businesses in the suburb. I think this is because so many national chains have gone out that they are picking up the slack.

  18. Judi

    Louis-
It’s a shame this conversation has nothing to do with what you were speaking about. From “knowing ” you all these years I doubt you have a hateful bone in your body! You were honestly, sincerely talking about the egotistical games being played with peoples lives. The suffering this has caused, to sate an individuals’ malignant narcissism should not be allowed to happen in this country. I hope it’s a mistake that is never made again. I hope the new Year is better for all concerned.
    Happy, Healthy New Year!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Judi thank you for understanding my statement and for expressing its’ meaning so clearly.

    2. Somersault

Judy, thank you because that is the understanding I had regarding Louis’ remarks. Empathy is a gift not everyone has received. Cat

    3. Jordan

Judi, sadly your post and the original one were pointed and personal and all of us knew without question at whom they were directed. How you can say that that is not the truth, and then use the term “malignant narcissism” yourself is beyond me. The pretentious condescension of the left has driven this nation nearly to its knees, and now we have to have this heretofore lovely blog made dirty, too. It breaks my heart, but not as much as the nation you are destroying. I suppose you agree with Secretary Reich that 74 million of us need to, in essence, be sent off to re-education camp? Is there no end to the arrogant, insufferable superiority of the left?

  19. Ivy

Oh my, just because Bee isn’t marching in lockstep with the majority of opinions here doesn’t mean her comments are inappropriate. And it looks to me like SHE is the one being attacked!

  20. Pamela

Hi Louis. Am curious, since you won’t be designing anymore…what about Whisper Knit? Could you not sell that trademark to someone or QVC so that it’s still available? Same regarding super ponte…is that also a Linea trademark? Thanks Pamela in the sunny south. Happy New Year!

  21. Cathy in PA

Well said, dear Louis! Your blog, your rules, and Walter and I agree completely. There’s a vast difference between “hate speech” and speaking out against injustice; if we don’t speak out against injustice, greed, tyranny and in defense of those less able, who ARE we? So happy you got such a nice visit from Cathy, we got another chance to search that gorgeous tree for our favorites (the Sea Captain on watch for storms …) and tins and tins of cookies!!! Here’s to a Happy and a better New Year with Love and HUGS and vaccines for everyone 🙂

  22. Pecan Cookie

    Hi Louis,
Love you and all you bring to us through your blog. RE: photos: The mask holder is a fabulous item. Glad to see you sporting it but you had me with that plate of Bucatini (was it?)! Whatever the type, your smile says it all and echoes the feeling I have for pasta myself. Wearing Linea Leisure top and pants as I wait for the baked ziti that is now in the oven. O Happy New Year, is it too soon to start?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Pecan Cookie….that’s exactly the pasta, Bucatini with Veal Bolognese sauce…..yummy….It’s never to early to wish me a Happy New Year….I hope your New Year is wonderful. With the vaccines coming it has to be better than 2020!

  23. Shay

    Hi Louis!
Thanks for being multi-faceted enough to give us a variety of looks to your blog. I thought you did a fine job of respectfully speaking your opinion (which I share, by the way), and if I didn’t, well… I could always read a different post. Cheers to a better new year!

  24. Jane J.

Dear Louis, This is your Blog – you set the rules and the content. I was enjoying your report on your visit with Cathy. I was sorry, however, that the post then became political.

As a Linea lady I come here every day – sometimes more than once a day – to read about your lifetime in fashion, to check out the sneak peeks of fashion and jewelry, to enjoy your reminiscences. I was happy and relieved that throughout this divisive year, politics was left out and has been absent from your Blog.

I remember back in 2016 one of the Linea ladies started posting political opinions here and then other posters joined in. It went on for 2 or 3 days until one brave Linea lady spoke up (I wish I could remember who) to say that we visit your Blog as a “SAFE HAVEN” – free from all the divisive politics that we’re bombarded with these days on a daily basis.

As I started out, this is your Blog, so you are certainly within your rights to say what you want. I support and believe in free speech. But I am trying to live without hate in my heart. Hasn’t there been enough hate – on BOTH sides? I feel very sad that this is how you’re ending the year.

You are a kind, generous and unbelievably talented person. I’ve enjoyed – and will continue to enjoy — all the fashions and jewelry I’ve purchased thru the years and I’m truly sorry that your time at QVC is at an end.

I wish you a very Happy New Year and all that is good in the coming years.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Jane. I respect your opinion. These are very extraordinary times, and though I have keep politics out of my blog I felt I could not be silent when so many many people are suffering. “Hate” it’s not hate I’m speaking of….I don’t hate anyone, but when there is such unjust things going on I just could hold back. Politics will not become a frequent conversation on this blog, but as I said these are extraordinary times, and I just could not ignore what has been going on any longer. I pray that 2021 will bring badly needed healing to this country.

      1. Bee

        Louis,
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even as I don’t think we have free speech in this country any more. That said, are you not aware that President Trump has tried to get MORE money to the American public, but the Democrats have stopped him so that he would not get the political victory? The present bill has hundreds of millions of dollars for gender studies in Pakistan, military aid to Egypt, hundreds of millions to the Sudan, some twenty million to the Kennedy Center etc. The Democrats also wanted to bail out Democrat mismanaged cities, Trump wanted the money for Americans in need. Are you sure you know what you are supporting?

    2. Bee

Nicely put and I totally agree with you. I hope your sentiment carries the day.

      1. Chris/Jazzmom

The Cares bill sat on the desk of the Senate Majority leader’s desk for months (May) until it started to backfire on the GA Senate race Republican Senators. Then AND only then, did Moscow Mitch bring the bill to the floor. Trump had his Treasury Secretary Mnuchin negotiate the $600 stimulus. And when he found out it was only $600, then he started demanding $2000. The House was glad to comply! Trump is busy golfing today again, on his well deserved vacation from watching cable news & rage tweeting. As the US citizenry dies of Covid & people are being evicted or making the difficult decision to buy food vs. medicine, he continues to ignore the country he had sworn to protect.

  25. Melanie

Well, what an unpleasant way to end the year with nasty comments. May God bless us all.

  26. Cheri

Very well said to all responses. Will be so happy to have sanity, integrity and a president who acts like a adult.

  27. Grace

Louis, I’m sure some will disagree, but I’ll never understand why! Behavior tells the story here, if people are paying attention with an open mind. This is what happens with a malignant narcissist in the White House and I fear the insanity isn’t yet over. Just 23 more days…

  28. Marie

I also agree completely and absolutely! Glad to see your pictures! I bought a silver tone chain. Thinking maybe I should get some more, as gifts for family members.

  29. Grace

Louis, so glad you did these classy chains & kudos to Cathy for the suggestion. I received my gold chain & loved the utility of it and the elegant look. Nowhere have I seen a jewelry quality multi purpose chain like this one. Brilliant. I went back for the matte black & silver…I’m glad to see you relaxed in your beautifully decorated home and out and about (safely) enjoying pasta during this holiday week. I agree 1000% with your assessment of the current depressing & infuriating situation. I think it’s a disgrace the current president has turned his back on people suffering and small businesses trying to survive during a pandemic, while he plays golf and the VP is skiing in Vail!!! It’s a dereliction of duty. Shame on him and good riddance. 2021 and new, competent, caring leadership from the White House can’t come soon enough!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

      1. Sheesh

Right there with you and Grace, Louis. He’s a malignant narcissist–which is extremely dangerous. We’re not talking the run of the mill ego driven narcissist that we all have experienced in our lives. A “malignant” narcissist is very different and very dangerous. Couple that with his sadism, vengefulness and psychosis–we are still in extreme danger until he is gone. Psychiatrists say that true malignant narcissists are rare and it you meet one—run! Can’t wait for the Manhattan DA and the NY State AG to finally stop this crime family. It’s way too late for many–but better late than never! Sheila

        1. Bee

          Sheesh,
Is this ignorance or just hateful emotions? It doesn’t bother you that the Biden family has taken millions of dollars from our self-described enemy, the Chinese communist government? Oh well, live and learn.

          1. Sheesh

You are the only one who is directly attacking people on this blog. Yours is not an opinion–it is an attack!

          2. Chris/Jazzmom

Amen, Sheesh. the NY AG Letticia James is waiting to unseal over 20 indictments on Individual #1 and his Organization come 1/21/21. These are state crimes for which no one can pardon him from.

        2. Barbara in Virginia

Hear, hear Sheila! This entire family along with others need to face the legal consequences of their actions. That is what our Justice system is for. We are a country of laws.

    2. Bee

      Grace,
Do you know how your government works?

      1. Somersault

Bee, your comments are totally uncalled for and are inappropiate.

      2. April

You need to stop this RIGHT NOW.
