………………….HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of my Asian friends! I have been told by Elaine and Rowena the easiest way to say it phonetically is….GONG HAY FAT CHOI………It’s the year of the OX which means hard work and serenity.

I bought fish, dumplings, longevity noodles, and a lot of fresh Chinese vegetables. Yum!

Seyma……where did you buy all of these goodies?

I live in the Hollywood Hills across from the Hollywood sign. Thirty minutes away is the San Gabriel Valley with the largest concentration of Chinese Americans in Southern California. Restaurants in this area represent all the regions of China including specialized noodle and dim sum shops. There are also markets and wonderful pastry shops. AND then there are the BBQ shops with Peking Duck and roasted pork hanging in the windows. In June you can buy mangosteens. and litchis. When I was in Hong Kong I would buy a bag of mangosteens and go to the park and watch the tai chi.

    Hello Louis,
I grew up downtown and would go to the parade on Mott Street, so colorful…and noisy with the firecrackers!!
My mother was a school crossing guard, each year she’s received from some of the students a dollar bill in a small red envelope with dragons on it. It was for Good Luck. I still have one of them.
Also, the Post Office has a stamp celebrating the New Year with a symbol of the Ox.
    Happy Weekend, Elaine

Thank you so much Elaine…your friendship is very valuable to me, and your always thinking of Jac means so much to me.

We have very good friends who are Chinese and we usually go out for a Chinese New Year feast every year. I bought a silk brocade jacket when we all traveled together to Hong Kong that I usually wear for the occasion. Sad to miss it this year, but I just heard last night that my first shot is scheduled for Sunday morning! I’m not stepping foot out of the house until then.

Happy New Year to you, Louis, and all the Linea Ladies.
