“Reintroducing the rescued elephants into the bush”

On the morning after we all gathered to see the movie about star we headed out to the elephant sanctuary. At 7:00am they release the rescued elephants into the bush. We all wanted to see the 7 year old STAR. At 7 there they came. The gentleman speaking was the caregiver who was the one who first bonded with Star. Their goal is to have the elephants completely separate from humans and live with elephant herds. A year ago they used to let guests mingle with the elephants, but they stopped it because it only made it more difficult for the elephants to separate. I was disappointed but I understood.

……..On the morning after we gathered , under a starry night, to see the movie about Star we were treated to their 7am release from the sanctuary into the bush. There was Star at the very back of the line. Their goal is to get all of the elephants to join wild herds and to cut their dependence on humans. It’s a difficult task as the elephants love their human caretakers. Only a year ago guests were allowed to mingle with the elephants. That was one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Abu Camp. They however stopped this practice, because it was only making it more difficult to separate the elephants from humans. I was very disappointed, but understood. The gentleman who is speaking was the man who first bonded with star. He became Star’s mother. Even though they lead the elephants into the bush every day the elephants, on their own, make their way back to the sanctuary every night! They are in the process of building another sanctuary in the bush so the elephants stay in the bush. It was a wonderful morning to a wonderful day in Africa

So wonderful to see the elephants in their habitat. I’m so happy that you are finally having this experience.

Oh Louis, that was your cue, when he said that Milady is so close to humans…and he “ends up feeding her .”
That was your cue to slip him a few bucks to go over and pet her. She is so sweet looking. Yeah.

Wonderful to see the elephants calm and not fearful. Just going on about their day
    as they should .
