………..Back to Villa Lily!……….During Andrea’s renovation of the villa he had the pool added which was not an easy feat! There were very few villas in Praiano at the time that had large swimming pools. It is very difficult to construct them on the sides of the steep cliff, and his villa is far below the main road so everything had to be carried down to the house or brought up from the sea. Very few people got permission to build pools. There was another staircase of at least 250 more steps to the sea below…I went down there a few times, but then you had to go back up!!! It was a workout!…There was a cave down there close to the sea that Andrea converted into a bedroom and bathroom….I believe he rented it out….The view from the pool and the terraces was just breath taking. Andrea designed the pool, and would tell EVERYONE what his inspiration was for the SHAPE of it, but that I’ll leave to your imagination!!!! Let’s just say it had something to do with anatomy…..He was a hoot! Anyone that knew Andrea knew his sense of humor….None the less it was a fabulous pool, and on those hot August days it was very welcome after working in the hot studio all morning! We took long lunches by the pool and a swim for a few hours before heading back to the studio for a few more hours of work! Sometime we would take swims in the evening after dinner as it was still quite warm. The pool and terraces had beautiful lighting…… A cool swim was perfect just before going to bed!
