THE CAVIAR SEAMED JACKET & PANT”

WK 20133

The one and only thing to discuss here is THE COLOR…….First let me say, NONE of the photos above are ACCURATE…..I tried and tried….flash, no flash, sunlight, shade….just can not get it. This is like no other color I have done before….to say it is gray would be misleading, because no other grays look good with it. As an alternative to the CAVIAR matching pant…..BLACK looks super CHIC. This is not an easy color to describe. It looks like a BLUE GRAY in some light, and a grey in others…This is not BLACK CAVIAR…it is that GRAY CAVIAR that has that ILLUSIVE BLUE quality……sorry to be so esoteric…..I’m  trying………..Armani uses this color often…..his pallet is always off of center, but that is exactly what gives these colors their SOPHISTICATION…….If you are looking for something special, and something UNIQUE……………this is IT. I have paired the CAVIAR with my AUBERGINE TURTLENECK and my WINE PEARLS, which many of you own. This is a color to experiment with. The pant will look wonderful with many colors….again that are off from center….misty dreamy colors, and deep rich colors…………..enjoy………….much Love…………………..Louis

A question, Louis! Is this gray darker in value as in the photos going left or light as the photos on the right. Or does it change?

Honestly the color is somewhere in the middle. I told you the photos were’t very good…sorry

I matched up one of the photos in the middle with my aubergine pieces that will hopefully give me a better idea of the value. The more I look at this gray, the more it reminds me of the Tyrolean Gray that is done in the Austrian loden cloth which is woven of a couple of different natural fibers. As the fibers take the dye differently and have different sheens, it is hard to describe. I also noticed that this gray seems to “blue up” depending on what I hold up with it on my computer screen. As we know, color changes the perception of color. I’ve been going back and forth between this and the black. For today, at least, I’m going with the caviar :-). Thanks for your help!!!

    Hi Louis

I need sizing help for the pants. I am usually a 6 in B&M, should I go down since you are saying the pants are stretchy? For the Jacket, you say its not fitted and my topaz seamed jacket from last year is an XS and fits great but is shorter. Would you advise S or XS? I have jackets and skirts from your collections, but havent tried pants since I pair your jackets with my tried and true Lauren and Banana trousers. This caviar is putting me over the edge so I am going to take the pants plunge!

Sorry for so many questions, but I am afraid I will only get one chance to get it right before its all gone!!

Lianne….I really don’t like to give fit advise when I don’t know what you look like.We usually pull size 6 pants for the models to wear. If you don’t want to wait for the 11pm show to see them on the models, which is the show they will be on, then I would say size 6. Maybe one of the ladies can advise you who wears the same size and has purchased my numerically sized pant. The fabric indeed has stretch, but with 5% span…it also has a lot of recovery.I would definitely stay with the XS in the jacket if you own the seamed jacket from last year in the xs.

Thank you very much Louis! I am a small waist big bottom 6, very curvy. I appreciate the guidance! I am going to take your advice, I would rather they be too big than too small. I am making my list and its very long.

The reviews are coming in already for the marled cowl neck and it sounds like a winner too.
        Best and thanks again!

          Hi Louis
Wanted to thank you again for the size advice, you were right (of course) and I got my suit and I adore it! The Ottoman is spectacular as well! I am thrilled with both! Much appreciated!
          Best, Lianne

Be still my heart, Louis! Years ago when I had time to hand knit my sweaters and such, I used to buy yarn by Manos de Uruguay, a yarn coop started by a Peace Corps volunteer some 30 years ago. The goal -which was abundantly reached- was to enable women in the rural areas to remain in the home while they hand-dyed and hand-spun wonderful yarns, primarily Uruguayan wool. I remember one of the colorways that was called “Petrol”, this same kind of indescribable gray that looked different in different lights. But all of the colorways were mysterious and dreamy. Did you ever use their fibers? I remember many designers did but don’t remember which ones. I may have to pick up those knitting needles again!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

I believe I did….At Anne Klein I hand an assistant who only worked on hand knitted garments, and she had a group of women who would make the production. She always showed me their yarns which were alway inspirational….that how creative designers find color…….not from Pantone. My assistants nick name was “needles” because she always had a pair of knitting needles on her. For many years now she is in charge and directs the Ralph Lauren knit wear. I think she has 30 to 40 people from all the divisions who answer to her.

I bet it was this coop! My boss when I was in the field in Colombia was later Country Director of Uruguay and Argentina. They were concentrating then on developing small businesses as well as environmental concerns. Bob would have looked for and found an international market. He is back in Panama now, now in his 70s, doing relief work there. Don’t know how he does it :-).

What can I say, Louis, other than I LOVE YOU. Thanks for posting these. I can just understand and feel the fabric from your description. As I said previously, I am in for the camel and this luscious caviar. How can we ever thank you enough for everything you do for us at the price point you are able to achieve. You are magical.

Beautiful Suit – love the Caviar. Will get the Caviar Suit – and an extra pair of Pants in Black.

There is no difficulty for me in choosing a color–it’s definitely caviar for me. Although I have to have all three pants colors. Maybe two of the caviar since I’m sure we won’t be seeing these pants again! (despite my best hopes for them!) N

This is just outstanding, and I’m happy there are those who don’t like polyester, because I won’t have to fight so hard to get the ones that I want!

    Now I’m hungry for caviar!
