“THE FEATHER JERSEY PANT”

Introducing THE FEATHER JERSEY PANT, A233191. Since a few of you were able to order this pant on wait list, before it was removed from the site, and it has been shipped out to you…..I thought it was appropriate for you to see exactly what you are getting. First the FABRIC……this is the exact same fabric as the jersey floral print dress that many of you bought last summer, A222262. In all my years at QVC, very few garments have been reordered within the same season……due to its’ popularity and the huge wait list…this dress was one of them. If you don’t own it please read the reviews…..not so much for the dress….but for the fabric. Even though the fabric is 96% polyester and 4% spandex…..it is a very COOL FABRIC………I know….all the polyester NAYSAYERS……. are saying….”it can’t be so”. Don’t believe me….read the comments………polyester has “come a long way baby”. This fabric is LIGHT AS AIR….hence the name “FEATHER JERSEY” ……………..”We “…..the buyers….. my manufacturer…..and myself……believe in this fabric so much that we have REGISTERED the name “FEATHER JERSEY”. However, the pant and the tunic to follow were produced and shipped before the labels were ready…..we tried to hold up, but it was getting to late to ship….so………all of the new OLO [on line only] FEATHER JERSEY pieces to come…. will have the new label………it will be a FULL WARDROBE  of FEATHER JERSEY pieces……………Now for the pant…….This is a VERY RELAXED DRAPY PANT………this is not a tailored cotton sateen or gaberdine pant……the fabric flows…..it is languid….it falls and drapes into the body like a matte jersey…..like a ……[heaven forbid I should say this] ……. PAJAMA…….I do not want any of you to have any surprises when you open the lovely QVC bag and exclaim…..this is not what I expected….LOL….The leg opening is approx. 10 inches, so it doesn’t qualify as a PALAZZO PANT which is usually double that and more…..and it was not intended to be one……The width of the leg is much more controlled, and in this fabric gives a slimmer effect than the 10 inches would imply…..in any other, more structured fabric, 10 inches would be considered a wide leg…..not so in this jersey….therefore it is very suitable to wear any time….ANYWHERE…..IMHO……  It has an ELASTIC WAIST BAND……however…..above the front pleats….the waist band is flat……..The FLATFLATFLAT pleats do not make your tummies look big, it actually CAMOUFLAGES……………The pleats give  a much better look than if it were perfectly flat without anything to hide the tummy……and I would venture to say 80% of you will wear something over it anyway. What these pleats do, that are concentrated towards the front, is give the desired volume to the leg, keeps the drapes strategically placed, but doesn’t add any width to the hips! This pant has fabulous POCKETS…. that have a slight drape to them….the look I was going for was a ….MODIFIED….. HAREM PANT, without the excess or the COSTUMERY!…… I guarantee, these will be the most COMFORTABLE pants you will ever put on your bodies….on those days when you don’t want any fabric to touch you…..reach for these…………The colors are ………..BERRY……….WALNUT…….OLIVE……The BERRY is a juicy RASPBERRY RED. Above, I have the BERRY paired the  with the new HOT PINK WHISPER KNIT V-neck short sleeve sweater. I LOVE those colors together, and I have accented the two colors with my wine [I think they call them red?] beads. The OLIVE, which is not my typical olive, but more of a moss, is paired with my new WK LIME MOCK NECK SLEEVELESS SWEATER and the LIME WK KIMONO……if that isn’t a tropical look….I don’t know what is! The seed bead necklace is coming. The WALNUT pant I have simply shown with the matching tunic that is your next SNEAK PEEK. It’s a fabulous COLUMN OF COLOR, to be accessorized or not, depending on your whim……..REMEMBER!!! It was this pant in the……. BERRY…….and……OLIVE that I showed with the very popular IKAT PRINT TOPS…..so you can check out that video to see the pant. The WALNUT PANTS works with the Ikats too!!The inseam is approx. 32 inches…….but when Jac had them on she thought they were longer….sometimes a fabric will hang longer that the flat measurement……so….that’s a good thing for my taller ladies….and for my lovely shorter ladies….you know you were going to have to shorten them anyway….LOL……………LADIES……….PLEASE!!!!………do not be afraid to mix your colors….if you only wear your new Whisper Knit sweaters with the usual white, black, khaki and navy…..you will be MISSING OUT ON ALL THE FUN!!!!! This is the season where you can really experiment and show your personalities! It’s time to express yourselves!…………………………ENJOY……………HAVE FUN…………….much Love……………..Louis…………………………………………………………………….scroll down for the tunic!

Hey there, these are going to be mine in the Walnut…love browns anytime of the year. Don’t understand the dislike of Summer Darks?? People wear black all year round and don’t give that a second thought!!!

These will be the first pieces I will have purchased in nearly a year…I bought a size 1X last year, and my new clothes will be a size MED!!! Yippee!!! Was well worth the wait.

For me there is no such thing as a winter, spring or summer color…..done correctly all colors can be worn. I happen to love Indian summer colors, vegetable dye colors all deep rich colors……you need them to balance out whites, brights and pastels, or it becomes all very ordinary…..Congratulations on your weight loss!

Thank you, I’m rather proud of myself….may lose some more, but it won’t be much.

Hi, Louis! Just a comment on your “Summer Darks”. I LOVE them! I grew up in Dallas, when on the first day of August chic Dallasites put all their spring and summer cottons away and pulled out their “Summer Darks”, usually blacks. And no schoolgirl returning to school the first Monday after Labor Day would be caught DEAD in anything other than dark cottons! Schools were not air conditioned in those dark ages and Texas heat usually extended well into October (and often November) so we wore those dark cottons until the temps dropped and we switched into wools.

We were all pretty tan by August and those dark colors really worked well with our tans. I don’t know if this is still done in Dallas but it was a yearly tradition from the time I was in third grade until I left Dallas after I graduated from college.

Will any of the Feather Jersey pieces be in prints? Some dark prints to go with these colors?

    As always, Barbara

Barbara, we are definitely on on the same page…..would not have pegged you for a Texas girl. I really don’t get why some don’t see these as summer colors…..they used to be called “INDIAN SUMMER COLORS’. Vegetable dye or Earth colors have always been a part of my spring summer pallet. There aren’t any prints in the OLO group of Feather Jersey. We felt it was best for the intro to keep it to solid colors. I know you will love this group.

LOL! I’m a hybrid. Father from old New Jersey family and mother from old Virginia family. But her father a Swedish college professor who would have me do diction drills if he heard any accent. I spent summers in the East with grandparents and other Virginia relatives. Anyway, most of people’s clothing choices are programmed into them. My Virginia Belle grandmother thought that women should look like a garden in bloom as long as it was hot. She didn’t understand the Dallas Darks at all! And before AC, the conventional wisdom was to wear light colors to be cooler. Stanley Marcus probably started the tradition in Dallas of dark colors after 1 August. All of his sales people wore black year ’round. Did you ever know him? He was a fixture on the sales floor of his stores and “Mr. Stanley” gave many of us growing up there our fashion design direction. Quite a gentleman who added much more than fashion to the Dallas cultural scene. He had an entire floor of the downtown store as an art gallery.

I certainly did know him. He was already quite old. I think I was the last designer he personally presented the Stanley Marcus Design Award to……a true retailing genius!

A genius, yes! His “Fortnights” were legendary. But he was no prima dona. I remember during a very busy sale he personally helped my mother. Then took her choices to the cash register, rang them up, packaged them up, then carried them out to her car for her. So happy to read that you were a recipient of the Stanley Marcus Design Award :-)!!!

    Louis:
I LOVE modified “harem” pants! They are very slenderizing. I bought all the colors of the pants and the berry and walnut tops. I am so happy to see what I am getting. I had asked before about sizing down but you said no, so I stayed with my usual mediums on both pants and tops. Fingers crossed they work. I am one of your 5’4″ ladies who will have to have the pants hemmed but I love unstructured clothes, especially living in the Atlanta area where it has already hit 80!

I have the lime Vneck WK and the matching cardigan and I really like they way you paired it with the olive. I also have the olive and natural “herringbone” tanks that I think will go great with all the colors. I think, come fall, I’ll put the tobacco tank and bolero with the olive, maybe the other colors too! Gee whiz, you never disappoint and I look forward to getting all of these goodies.

BTW, I asked also would you be bringing this fabric and these pants in black come fall. Am I correct, that you are planning to do that? Charcoal gray would be a nice option too.

Thank you for bringing us true designer clothes at a very reasonable price. All the best to you and Jac.

    Fran

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Fran….I am so glad you like this direction for the new FEATHER JERSEY. The group that is still to come will include tanks, tunics, cardigans, T shirts, caftan shirts, skirts [maxi and short] and another pull-on pant and they will be in delicious colors….like FLAMINGO, LIME, AQUA, SEA FOAM, NECTAR, NAVY, SMOKE GREY, and HEMP, but alas no BLACK……that’s my fault………I thought the fabric would not dye into a deep dark black so I didn’t suggest it. Then the first fitting samples came in…. in whatever color the fabric mill had…..it was BLACK and it was beautiful…..I am still kicking myself! Oh well live and learn…..the next go round I will definitely do Black!

    Louis,

Is the waistband flat in front from side seam to side seam, or just a small flat panel over the front pleats? LOVE that Moss Olive green 🙂 Now if we could sometime get the original dress back, maybe in a new print/colors … Look forward to seeing more of the Feather Jerseys … and the LACE DRESS!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

The flat portion of the waist band is just over the PLEATED section so there isn’t any shirring due to the elastic in the rest of the band. The original dress is back but it is already sold out in sizes. It has not been reordered. I will just have to do some new dresses in that fabric.

Good thing I have my Black & Ivory dress safe and sound and ready for spring, in the closet; wish I’d gotten the Orchid color; the Chartreuse was too golden for my coloring. The little bit of custom tailoring I had done to it made it so right for me; I’ll buy that style or similar again in any prints and colors you can think of 🙂 The flat pleats, slightly raised waist and inset pockets made it perfect. Thanks for the info on the pleats on the pants; I’ll be in for that Olive for sure. Thanks, Cathy in PA

My initial reaction is those are some scary pockets! My next reaction is “Hammer, don’t hurt me.” LOL

However, I put my faith in your design sense and know I will not be disappointed. I do love the fabric, and all the colors, so I’m diving in head first.

There is nothing to be scared about with the pockets…..since they are more to the front than on the sides they don’t add any width or bulk to the hips….this fabric doesn’t add bulk anyway….it’s very thin. Dive in the waters fine!
