“MATTY & MICHELE PAY UNCLE LOU A VISIT”

……………………This past weekend my nephew Mathew and his girlfriend Michele spent part of the weekend with me in Ct. They arrived on Sat. about 2pm, and we scooted right out to Terrain, a fabulous store in Westport. We spent a good hour, hour and a half perusing about with wire baskets in hand. I got some interesting soaps and candles for the house, and they did too. Then we drove over to Rowayton for an early dinner at “The Restaurant”…..a wonderful fish restaurant on the water. After dinner I gave them a tour of Rowayton, and old whaling town….Then back to my home. We sat by the fire, watched a movie and had hot apple pie and vanilla ice cream…..yummy!….then to bed, but I stayed up to watch the world series……….Go Braves!………..On Sunday morning we got ready and went to the “Sugar Bowl” in Darien for breakfast. It was packed, but we lucked out. There was one empty table for three waiting for us. We had a delicious breakfast, and then I took them for a ride to see Darien. We passed by my first house in CT in Darien on Wee Burn Lane and continued on through New Canaan….then back home……We settled in and watched my pictures and videos of Africa on  my TV….. After a while, about 2:00 we had lunch. I made a delicious chicken salad made of cut up chicken breasts, mayo, cut up Honey Crisp apples [no skin], cut up red grapes and toasted almond slivers…..salt and ground pepper, which we had on big toasted rolls. I like to gouge out the dough so you can really fill them with the salad, and you don’t need that dough anyway. We had some other sides and we were done. They left at 3pm because they needed to be home on Long Island by 4:30……..No dinner for me…….I just finished the apple pie and vanilla ice cream!

So glad you had a nice visit with your family. That apple pie and ice cream sound great- I’ll have to settle for apple sauce tonight and just dream it’s a pie since I have no pie nor ice cream in the house.
thanks for all the posts and I purchased four pieces of jewelry in different colors from my original purchases. Great price that justifies the over indulging.

    Hi Louis,
Love reading your posts. I enjoyed reading about and seeing the pics from your trip to Africa. Your weekend visit sounds lovely.
I was especially interested in your chicken salad. It sounded so good. Honey crisp apples are my favorite. I love them for baking as well because they don’t break down into apple sauce like many other apples. Apple pie and ice cream for dinner! You are my kinda guy. My husband use to tease me and say why don’t you skip dinner and go straight to dessert? He knew dessert was what I really wanted. Now that I’m a senior and alone, I do that whenever I want!

Oh you all look so beautiful and happy! It sounds like you had such a lovely visit. I want warm apple pie and ice cream now. I just bought some Cortland and McIntosh apples with that purpose in mind.
I can’t believe it’s November already! We are busy putting the gardens to bed and getting out winter gear. My dear husband planted the last of my daffodil bulbs as I had to cook for our son’s soccer banquet. I sure did pick a winner, but now his elbow hurts! Love and hugs to you!

Karen, I sympathize with your husband! Planting Daffodils is hard work. I usually skip a year and plant new bulbs every other year…..or should I say Umberto, Franco’s assistant does.
