……………………………I’m not one to miss history in the making! I got up in time to see Camilla and Charles get out of the golden carriage and enter the cathedral through to their appearance on the balcony……It’s still on and I’m enjoying the chatter!

I thought for sure you would be watching the coronation, Louis! I watched the BBC’s excellent video of the procession to and from the Abbey and all of the coronation. Unfortunately, the BBC later removed their coverage from public view amidst much criticism for doing so. Such a shame that millions throughout the world were being denied! I thought the coronation was majestic, and quite complete without all the tiaras and associated bling. Every single aspect of it was so thoughtfully planned and rich in tradition and historic antecedents. It’s rather mind-boggling that William the Conqueror was also coronated in that very place. I loved the addition of the anointing screen, entirely appropriate for the intensely personal pledge to God by the monarch. I don’t know that the coronation is viewed by all as a very serious Anglican religious service. But I also liked the inclusion of the other faiths in the UK at the end. An Australian station also put up the video of the complete coverage, and I intend to watch it again as there was so much depth of meaning and symbolism. Now weren’t William and Catherine’s children just adorable, and so poised? They are the future.

It started at 2 am on the West coast. It was a long night! In 1983 I was in London for the Queen’s Birthday celebration and managed to grab a prime viewing spot along the parade route thanks to some insider advice at our hotel. Queen Elizabeth, Charles and Phillip were in tartans on horseback, followed by Diana and the Queen Mum in an open carriage. I could practically reach out and touch them. No rain that day, and it was quite a memorable spectacle. It will be interesting to see how this Charles III reign plays out. I personally would have gone with another name. Charles isn’t exactly a lucky name for a British king.
