“MAY TABLE SETTING”

…………………….IT’S MAY, and soon to be Memorial Day!…..so I felt it’s time for a fresh table setting……The theme is YELLOW & WHITE with a touch of green…..and with accents of STRAW & RATTAN………LEMONS are the KEY pattern……For the yellow and white flowers I chose FORSYTHIA, MIMOSA, and different types of WILD FLOWERS in yellow….plus some SUN FLOWERS….I must confess….they are all faux, but they look fabulous, and will last until I change the table again!!…..I put the flowers in a variety of vases from a large white vase that looks like an antique milk bottle at the center….to yellow pressed glass smaller vases, and clear glass small vases encased in either rattan or woven straw…..I chose my LEMON PLATES which sit on gold chargers….which sit on thick straw place mats….Yellow and White napkins with straw napkin rings rest on top of the plates…..The forks, knife and spoons are GOLD……..I used TWO TABLE CLOTHS…….a long solid yellow one, and a printed lemon smaller cloth that sits on top……For my glasses I’ve brought out my Simon Pierce wine goblets, and yellow water glasses…..White and yellow candles sit in clear glass and gold candle sticks…Votives and white STAR LIGHTS add addition evening light….The salt and pepper shakers are a combination of clear crystal shakers with gold tops, lemon shakers and shakers wrapped in rattan……I always like to add decorations, and this time I chose my PAGODAS in yellow and white, and rattan pagodas each holding a votive candle….In addition there is a water pitcher and an oil jar, both with hand painted lemons…There is also a white vase/jar with two handles with a hand painted crest I bought in Florence, Italy many many years ago….For my first dinner maybe I’ll serve lemon pasta….baked lemon chicken…a tossed salad with lemon dressing……and LEMON CHEESECAKE!…..would it be TOO MUCH to serve lemonade or LIMENCELLO on ice!

“THE FAMILY ROOM”

………………After I finish decorating the dining table I like to extend the theme to the rest of the gathering room……On the scroll Chinese table, photo upper right, I have white sand blasted ceramic vases filled with babies breath, and at the center a white, yellow and blue bowl filled with lemons….Across from it is a Chinese alter table with a silver hammered vase filled with yellow and white flowers, and small yellow glass vases lined up filled with mimosa……On the coffee table is another hammered silver vase filled with a variety of yellow and white flowers, plus small silver vases filled with mimosa and white babies breath. There are also two large rattan pagodas that hold votives….My dandelion lights add a subtle sparkle…The eyes just keep moving around the room with something to see!

“BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES”

……………..A Nor’easter is hitting New England…..This is very unusual for the month of May. They are predicting 3 inches of rain, and winds up to 50 miles an hour…I’ve taken precautions, by taking down all of my hanging plants, and everything that I thought might get blown over….I even covered my new rose trees and moved them to a less windy place…..If you’re in the path of this storm…take care…..BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!
