“MAY SNEAK PEEK #8”

Sneak Peek #8 is A224716. This is my draped jersey dress….the  “LANA” dress. Years ago I met Lana Turner at a cocktail party in NYC. She had just shot an ad for “What Becomes A Legend Most”….the  fur campaign. Peter Rogers, who was a friend, created the famous campaign through his agency. She was already in her late 60’s and she was perfectly dressed and her makeup was flawless……a STAR to the end. She always had incredible style and not the kind of style that is just created by the studios, though I am sure she learned much from the best Hollywood had to offer.

The colors of the dress are ………DEEP PEACOCK, a deep blue green….and…….VIOLET. This dress is PURE DESIGNER and has many special  details. I wanted to give the illusion of a DEEP V-Neck without showing anything so I added the MODESTY tank that is attached to the dress at the shoulder straps and the side seams…..so it is free from the pieces of fabric that create  the V. This is a very important detail. Usually the modesty piece would have been just stitched to the edge of the V, but that is the inexpensive way to do it and it doesn’t allow the front pieces to drape properly…..just a bit of trivia. There is a draped bodice which is great to hide any imperfections. In the back there are two sections of elastic that give the dress a wonderful fit without being constricting. The skirt is softly gathered….not too much volume, but just enough to hide and worrisome areas. There is an attached belt that you can WRAP and TIE many ways…… illustrated above. First bring the straps to the back….then around to the front and either tie in a BOW …or twist them once and bring them to the back again….TIE and TUCK the ends in…..very simple. There is also a back zipper….if you need it. The dress is approx 42 inches long. It is poly jersey so it is washable and again, PERFECT for TRAVEL. The REEF GREEN shrug in the photo above is worn over the DEEP PEACOCK dress. If you own the reef green shrug already that will give you an idea of how deep the color peacock is. The violet shrug is a different violet from the dress……..I like them together but I like mixing different colors. I know some wouldn’t get it….that’s OK too. This is a dress to be worn 12 months out of the year….day or night……..this is the last sneak peek for MAY!!! …..An IMPORTANT HEADS UP….this dress will be featured on Q Check with Shawn. I thought it was the printed maxi on Q Check, but I was wrong. The printed maxi will be on my 1pm show with Shawn………enjoy, much Love, Louis

    Hi Louis:

The May shows were fabulous!!!! I purchased this dress which was presented during the ‘Q-Check’ hour. The dress has so much detail to flatter my curves and camouflage flaws! It makes me look like I have an ‘hour glass’ figure. The fabric truly does not cling, and this makes it perfect for a sweltering summer day. The zipper in the back is a generous detail which helps to ease the dress on and maintain the close fit. I chose the purple color which looks so rich with your yellow jackets. Another ‘Home Run’ Louis!!!

Great show today Louis. I’ve come to the conclusion that Shawn is the perfect host for you. You two compliment each other, & the shows are really fun to watch- great energy!

Are you able to bring back your Tie Dye Cardigan SOON? That sweater is the greatest! I keep watching for returns in xxs, but there have been zero. It’s so funny, because I’ll see a return in a larger size, I’ll refresh my browser, & the item is instantly gone! It’s being stalked, lol. Anyway, it’s obviously a huge hit, & I would love to see it return.

    Congrats Louis…superb job!

I agree, a black version without the modesty panel. Pretty Please!

I’m trying to get a feel of the “violet” color. Is it similar to the “magenta” of your roma ponte jacket from a couple seasons ago (which also came in “sweet potato” and “loden”)? Or is it more purple?
    Merci 🙂
    Looking forward to the shows!

I know exactly which color you are talking about. This color I would say is just as intense but it has more purple in it than the magenta ponte knit.

    Hi Louis,
How does the deep peacock color match up to your other luscious greens from the fall/winter? Does it coordinate with the Spruce Green, Forest Green, etc? Love the dress!

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Sorry, I’m not home to compare them. I can say it is nothing like the “forest green” of the ponte knit. I think this is bluer than the spruce green.

Louis, glad you and Jac had a fun and successful trip. Very excited about the new items for tomorrow, could hardly wait for the maxi! Already ordered it in the pink/espresso. It is fab and I love that it has a bit of coverage, I get tired of wearing shrugs with my other ones when I am trying to be a bit more demure….I enjoy watching your shows for the great accessory and styling ideas. Where does the jewelry come from that the models wear? There were some outstanding, bold pieces on your last show–were they from QVC or are they yours? Thanks again and look forward to seeing some great things tomorrow! I always love to see what Jac chooses to model, she is the epitome of grace and style.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

The jewelry comes from all over. Most of it I have collected over the years. The wine and brown beads that the models will wear with the brick red and espresso maxi will be Linea this July Aug. There will also be bracelets in the same colors.

I’m in for the green color!

      Me two!

Louis, that dress would be insane in black, without the modesty panel – talk about a killer LBD!

I like the dark peacock – can the panel be cut out easily, without harming the dress?

  9. Birdie

Magnificent! Such an elegant & simple dress… I will def. get the green, and possibly the violet. Great job, Louis.
Btw, thanks for the note about cutting out the modesty tank.

  10. Maria (Goldie 76)

I just fell in love with a dress!

  11. Debby

This dress is so beautiful! It’s calling my name! I love 40’s movies and the dresses that were worn then-gotta have both colors. The green is so rich and elegant looking-an impossible color to find these days. Thank you!

  12. Clarika

O be still my heart! I have, have to have a violet one! This dress is going to show my hourglass figure to perfection! Am so excited, Louis you make it so difficult to choose, but these one is a defnite for tomorrow!
Thank you so much for these early peeks!

Oh, someone asked if the modesty tank is removable for those “special evenings.”

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

If it were up to me….it wouldn’t be there at all….all nights are special…but alas….it is sewn in…..but you could cut it out LOL.

I remember that ad campaign because I spent so much time looking at it. Lana Turner looked so beautiful. Thank you so much for this wonderful gift, Louis. Without you, I wouldn’t have a prayer of being able to wisely afford a dress with this kind of tailoring, and I don’t think I ever would have found one in my U.S. Ski Team town. These colors frame a women’s face and make it glow like a gem. No unhealthy tan or orangey fake tan required. It will be so easy and so much fun to accessorize this dress for any season. I love retro, but not huge, round, skirts. I love showing my legs, and slim hips, so this is perfect for my figure. I am over the moon. Thank you! upallnight1/Deborah in Park City, formerly of 73rd and 1st

Hi Deborah, formerly of 73rd and 1st….nice address. This dress should look great on you and in Park City it will probably be one of a kind….the quantities are limited.
