“THE GARDEN and PLANTINGS”

……………………….”Hydrangeas, Holly Hocks, Geraniums, and my baby trees”…….I love Holy Hocks, and every year would plant them in the garden along the white fence. My obsession with these beautiful plants always amused Jac……She would laugh at me when I would go from nursery to nursery looking for all the varieties of color…..obsessing……..We used to have beautiful TALL mature pine trees along the drive, and in the border bed leading all the way to the water. They were here when we bought the house. One year, during a horrific storm, they all came tumbling down. It was so sad to see these majestic trees laying in the drive. I was told, because they were very old with very shallow roots, it was only a matter of time…….I bought three trees to plant, but they never did well and they depressed me so I had Franco remove them. Then about four or five years ago I noticed these tiny tree seedlings growing in the beds, and I thought OK, these little babies chose this spot to grow so I will try to nurture them along. I didn’t baby them, because I felt if they were going to make it they would have to be strong and make it on their own…….The photo, at the top, second in from the left are the two trees that I started with, and have grown to the point that they are no longer seedlings but full blown trees. TheĀ  larger one in the back is my first baby, the smaller in the foreground is about three years old and doing well. My babies have grown up….The column of three photos in the center are newbies, and all are doing great. I think because they were “born” here in this soil they will do well. I now have a row of SEVEN trees in all different stages of growth. It gives me great joy to see them flourish. I am happy that Jac was able to share this with me…………..Jac always wanted RED ADIRONDACK ROCKING CHAIRS………………We bought two, and they sit on the small porch facing the Long Island Sound……The view of open water is spectacular…….In the early evening before the sun set, and the sky was a painting of beautiful colors, Jac would entice me to come and sit with her by offering me some ICE CREAM! How could I resist sitting with my two favorite things! Sometimes she would say….”Lou, you just have to come and sit with me and look at the full moon….it’s so beautiful!” I loved when she called me “her Lou”. The moon has been full the last few days, and yesterday, as it came above the horizon, it was a beautiful orange color……I had to go and sit on the rocking chair and talk to Jac………….no ice cream needed to entice me.
