“DUMATAU CAMP”

…….The second “camp” we stayed at was DumaTao, which means “Roaring Lion”. To say that this camp was spectacular would be an understatement. This camp is considered the gold standard of this group of camps, and it didn’t disappoint. I was glad we came here after Abu. Though Abu was great DumaTao was just incredible. My video doesn’t do it justice. To have a cooling system in the bed area was a wonderful surprise. Chris was very happy! I could have spent a few more days here. Our schedule was so packed that I would have loved to spend two days at the pool!!!….Dumatau is part of the Linyanti Concessions on the Linyanti River in Botswana. I highly recommend!

……The DUMATAU camp was the second stop on our trip, and it was magnificent! This is the GOLD STANDARD of camps. I was happy we went to Abu first and saved this magnificent camp afterwards since they are both on the water. Abu was wonderful, but DumaTao was fantastic! There is another camp close by called small Duma that also has guests, but we don’t mingle. Everything is kept separate. It’s supposed to be more private, but I don’t know how much more private you can get. Also their facilities weren’t quite as grand. We did share the pool area, but again I only saw them once….a single party of 5…..4 guys and one girl. I liked where we were staying much more and the cost was the same. Duma was supposed to open last year, but due to Covid it did not. This however, gave them another complete year to fine tune every detail, and it is just beautiful. My video does not due it justice. Again, there are only 6 rooms so there are a very limited number of guests. During the day, even for breakfast, you hardly see anyone, because each guide has his own schedule. Our guide was Peter, his assistant guide in training “See” [you saw the video of him dancing], and Chris and I were the only people in the jeep…..so we had them all to ourselves. We all became great friends and Chris is in communication with them through social media. Peter was incredible and I learned a great deal from him. He and See were great trackers and new from the prints in the sand just how old they were. This camp and our room were far superior to the others, and I thought the others were fabulous. Each has their own beauty and special things to offer. DumaTao has water features that Abu didn’t have. There were two boats…one they called the “Barge” which Peter took out and we had lunch on it…..a fabulous day on the water. The other is a smaller faster boat that we took for a late afternoon to sunset cruise through the reeds and waterways. It was fascinating! So much more to tell and show of our wonder stay at DumaTao. The camp is also in Botswana and about an hour and a half flight from Abu. It is part of the Linyanti Concessions on the Linyanti River. The views were unbelievable!!!!!….BTW….I fell madly in love with DOLLY….she became my girlfriend at DUMATAO!

You were in paradise, weren’t you? 😍 The bar was
Gorgeous, I’m just imagining myself there and ordering
Something exotic as I watch the sunset. You also got a
Shot of the beautiful water lilies that Peter said were
    Medicinal, remember?

I was drinking Campari and soda every night. Not everyone likes it, but I do.
