“CLAUDE MONET”

………………….Chapter #3……….Sargent appreciated and studied many painters among them Velazquez, Frans Hal, Van Dyck, Carolus-Duran, his teacher, and Gainsborough, but the one painter he spent time with was Claude Monet….The two paintings at the extreme left, Sargent painted of Monet and his wife….Sargent was not considered an impressionist painter, but Monet’s influence can easily be seen here with these two painting….Sargent was considered a “Realist”…….Dr. Pozzi, the Frenchman in the red robe, was the first full length portrait Sargent did of a man….Dr. Pozzi was considered a brilliant gynecologist, and some of the instruments he invented are still used and talked about today…The dramatic red robe was chosen by Sargent, and was to signify blood…..Though Pozzi was married with children, he and his wife were not simpatico….He did have many affairs, and some with his patients….Sara Bernhardt was one of his patients. He had a long affair with the actress, and they remained friends their entire lives….He was nicknamed the “Belle Epoque LOVE DOCTOR”…..He also had an affair with Sargent!……”The Woman with the Red Rose”, and the “Lady in Red” were two of Sargent’s better know portraits…..The color is incredible, and looking at the actual paintings one can only marvel how brilliant they still are……over one hundred years later!

First of all Louis I miss you and Linea so very much. Years ago when you announced QVC was canceling your line, I almost had a panic attack. I was furious! I called QVC and went off on Customer Service. I apologized to the young lady and assured her that I wasn’t angry with HER, just the situation. I asked “Did QVC decide they don’t want lines for grown women anymore? Or do they think we all want to wear sweatpants and clown clothes?”
I started going through my closet this afternoon, preparing for a purge. Not one piece of Linea was in anything but the “KEEP” pile.
Anyway, my favorite painter is John Singer Sargent and “Dr. Pozzi At Home” is my favorite of his beautiful paintings. It’s here in L.A. at the Hammer Museum so I’ve seen it and swooned over him more times than I can count. I bought a copy of the painting which is at the framer’s along with a poster of Sarah Bernhardt. I thought she should be on my wall next to her beloved “Dr. Dieu”.
I hope you are enjoying your retirement, and in some ways it’s certainly saved me money. When you were on, I’d end up wanting everything you showed and buying most of it. In every color. That NEVER happens now.
    Much love, dear brilliant Louis!
