“THE MOSS WOOD BLOCK PRINT DRESS”

May show 201421

………………….A NEW PRINT a NEW DRESS…..A255151……………The design was inspired by INDONESIAN WOOD BLOCK PRINTS…………..The fabric is my FEATHER JERSEY. I know there are a great  deal of you who absolutely love this fabric and have been asking me to please bring it back. Two of my most successful dresses have been done in this fabric…one being the Russian Expressionist inspired print dress, A234414, If you have any questions about this fabric I would suggest you read the reviews of that dress. The fabric is very light weight and super COOL…..perfect for the summer days to come………………..The coloration of the print is TONAL. For the ……MOSS…….color above there are   two colors…..the dark OLIVE and the lighter MOSS GREEN. I personally love these RICH, DEEP summer colors that can take you right through Oct., and for the southerners….all year long. I have the perfect color necklaces and earring to coordinate with this dress……..J278133, earring, J278132 necklace and J278131 companion necklace….all in OLIVE [don’t look at the QVC photos! They are not  representative of what the pieces look like]. ………………The SILHOUETTE…………The dress has a SKIM & FLARE SHAPE…..notice I did NOT say “FIT & FLARE”. This is not a fitted into the waist dress. It SKIMS the BODY and then gracefully falls into a softly flared skirt….not to full and not skimpy…..a perfect balance. The dress is approx. 41 inches long  for the XS…..The shoulder straps are definitely bra friendly, and the piped neckline is the marriage of a “V” and a “U”…..so it’s a rounded V.The armholes are likewise piped……This is the dress you will reach for when you don’t want to think about separates and coordinating pieces…….When the weather forecast is for blistering temperatures and you just want to put on something you know will be light as a “FEATHER”, comfortable and cool…….scroll down…………………………..enjoy………………much Love……………………………….Louis

Remember the shantung jacket in olive and sapphire blue? I wonder if the olive version would look great with this dress?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Chris….Wonder no more….I tried the olive jacket with the dress and I think they look great together….Unexpected….yes….unusual…yes…all the reasons I think they look fabulous together.

Thank you!! I love ‘shopping my closet’ and finding newer items work back to items I own!!

  2. Jackie

I love the moss color and will be watching for it to be listed on line. Thanks Louis for reminding us about the olive jewelry. I purchased both necklaces and earrings this morning before they sell out. Olive is my new favorite color looking forward to fall.
Question. Would one of your black blazers look OK with the moss or would it be too harsh? And, will we see other olive color items this fall?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Jacqui…..the black is a little harsh….that’s the perfect word. It’s funny because I don’t mind it with the teal, but it doesn’t look right with the moss. What looks PERFECT with the moss is the A233950, Coffee Bean open front cardigan. They really look good together and the soft cardigan looks good with the flow of the dress.

      1. Jackie

Lovely. Thanks for helping me with my coordinates. The Coffee Bean it is!!!!

      2. Teri

Is the thyme boucle’ cardi too yellow for the moss dress?

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Teri…..I would have never thought about those two pieces together, but since I’m guessing you own the cardigan you can zoom in on what you have. I checked them out and even though they are not nearly the same colors….I really liked them together. There is definitely an off handedness about the two together that works for me. It looks like something a magazine editor or stylist would put together….it’s a little quirky….in a good way……and the thyme is not too yellow at all…..actually, for me it’s the opposite.

          1. Teri

Thanks a bunch. We have a go, tnen. Happy summer!

All three color stories are delicious! I just wish that I could go to the shoe department for the coordinating footwear, to handbags for a dyed to match tote and then grab the jewelry, and before leaving maybe pick up a scarf on the main floor?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear MH-MN….matching shoes?? Good Luck, but you never know. I would suggest a dark metallic sandal. Some bronze colors can be quite green. Copper and gunmetal will work too.

      1. Sherry

I have a mini wedge in Olive that I ordered through JJill that I think will go nicely with the Moss.

  4. Saphira

Love! I will be Raspberry/Magenta for me, love FJ too.

  5. designista

Three for me…love this fabric, I could be wearing them now.

  6. Nancy (smilesalot)

ADORE the FJ.. why decide which color? Get them all!
Thanks for making these lovely little dresses… I’m in love and haven’t even seen them!

    Oh, Louis!
Thank you!!! Feather jersey is one of my 3 favorite fabrics you use, the whisper knit and ponte knit are the others.
I hope you can tell us that you will continue to use feather jersey. I lived in these last summer, so cool, languid, and comfortable!
Are you going to be able to bring us other f.j. pieces? I’m sorely missing black! I suppose if you can do it, we would have to wait until next year?
I love these dresses! The fabric, the woodcut design, the colorways. Of course, the olive/moss but I’m sure I won’t stop there 🙂

Dear Judi….this will be it for this season in FJ. I have done some sketches in the fabric for next spring but that’s no guarantee.

      1. Sherry

We will be keeping our finger crossed that we get to see those new designs next spring…

      2. Judi

Great! I have faith. It seems as though FJ has legions of fans!

  8. Teri

This is the prettiest thing I have seen on a page. I am very long waisted and the tank style dress with ruffle I already have will probably be best for me. Love feather jersey though.

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Teri….I’m not sure this won’t work because there is no defined waist. I think you should make your decision when you see it on the models on my June 5th show.

  9. Chris/Jazzmom

Deciding which color is going to be difficult!

  10. Debbie M.

    WOW!
