Dear Joan…….

When Jac and I first heard about what had happened to Joan during this supposedly simple procedure, and read how long it took for the paramedics to get her heart beating again, we fearedĀ  the worst, but prayed for the best. Knowing Joan for so many years, and knowing what a fighter she has always been, I truly thought if anyone could survive this….Joan would be the one….Unfortunately, it was not to be…………………………………..I first met Joan many years ago when I was designing at Anne Klein. Her husband Edgar has just died, and Joan came up to get some black suits. Under such horrendous circumstances, she was filled with a calming grace. I worked with her privately in my office for a few hours and the suits were delivered to her that evening. She was always so thankful and appreciative………..Years later…..we met in the studios at QVC. She came over to me, squeezed my hand, and we looked at each other…..no words were needed……………..I will miss that little firecracker very much, but her spirit is so strong she will never be far away………………………..Jac and I want to send all of our love to Melissa and Cooper……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Thank you for letting us know about your personal experience with Joan and how you helped her through her husband’s passing. I really loved Joan’s appearances on QVC. She always made me laugh, and I will never forget her hilarious appearances with Kathy Levine. You both shared a love of fine taste in clothing and jewelry that you will always be able to look back upon fondly.

Thank you for sharing your story about Joan. We all feel we knew her because of all of her appearances on QVC for 25 years. I had the pleasure of only seeing her once in person some 30 years ago at Wolf Trap in Virginia. I was laughing so hard I am sure I missed half of her jokes. The whole audience was laughing just as hard as I was. Funniest comedian I ever saw! God Bless you Joan and Rest in Peace. We will miss you.

I saw her perform a few times many years ago at Ye Little Club in Beverly Hills, CA. She will definitely be missed.

Louis, thanks for sharing your Joan story. I have been a QVC customer for years and by watching designers like yourself, Joan and Bob Mackie you develop a familiarity and in an odd way, a relationship. it is too bad all of QVC designers do not get to see us like we see you. I am only one person living in a little farmhouse in Wisconsin but I genuinely feel sadness for losing Joan when she was so vibrant. I so looked forward to her shows, like yours. I, too, had a great relationship with my mother. Melissa and Cooper will miss her terribly.
    Thanks again for your story.
PS. Looking forward to buying the green swing coat. Any idea when it will be posted for sale? I am hoping it is for sale before the end of Sept.

Dear Jackie….I am sure Melissa would be very touched by your caring….a small farm house in Wisconsin sounds wonderful to me…..I really don’t know when the jacket will be avail….It has been delivered, but it’s up to the QVC people when it gets posted and aired.

So wonderful we can have a cozy place like this to share our thoughts about the passing of this wonderful, brave woman. She clearly proved that glamour doesn’t have an age and we should strive to be the best we can. Get up ! she used to say. And if there’s a way to feel better about yourself, do it. An inspiration to women of all ages. I’m so glad I got to see her “Last Act” at the Venetian in Las Vegas. She gave her all, Such a generous soul. Joan, you will be missed.

One day at QVC….I heard someone calling my name…I turned and there was this blond woman down the hall….the closer she got the more familiar she looked. It was a dear friend of mine from High School, Adele Fass. I exclaimed, “what the He– are you doing here???” She replied, “I’m Joan’s makeup artist…I’ve been doing her for years”………………small world…..she worshiped Joan…..I’m sure she’s heart broken.

Will miss her very much. I have watched her since I was a little girl and always enjoyed her humor. Prayers, Love and Peace to the family. She may be gone from this earth, but her bright light will shine forever!

  8. Nancy (AKA TheOwl)

Been watching and praying for her and her family ever since the news hit last week. Always so fun to watch her in her QVC shows. Could count on a day brightener. An inspiration on so many levels. Hope I can stay “young” in heart and humor and style like she did til the end.

Louis, you seem to always do the decent and loving thing. She was an original — and they don’t make them like that anymore. That woman could make me laugh. Whenever she appeared on QVC, I looked forward to my free nightclub act. Such irreverent humor, but in humor there is often truth.

Thank you, Louis for all that you do…but especially for the lovely man that you are. Only man of substance would give such a beautiful tribute for Joan Rivers knowing that those who appreciated her talents and courage would also need to be comforted at this time. She will be missed, but not soon forgotten!

Lovely tribute to Joan, Louis. Thank you for sharing an “inside” view from your relationship with her. She was on the Best Dressed List…and I’m not the least surprised that she chose you when she needed a special wardrobe for a sad event in her life. You have expressed your thoughts and memories SO well for all of us to share.

Beautiful. I thank you for your words. I was waiting for you to comment, because I know you would, when the time was right. This, to me, was the tribute I was waiting for.

What a beautiful remembrance of your experience with Joan! My prayers go out to Melissa and Cooper at this time that they will find some comfort in knowing how much she meant to so many.
