“THE CHOCOLATE TOP & SKORT”

skort

………….A word I thought you would never hear pass through my lips is………S.K.O.R.T…….It really is an ugly word to describe a piece of clothing….so if anyone has a better name I would love to hear it. I did say I would NEVER do a skort, but then I remembered a SILK CREPE DE CHINE “skirt short” I did many moons ago at Anne Klein. It was a pair of shorts with an attached wrap skirt….front and back so the shorts were not really seen…….only the side of the pant leg. These were part of a resort collection, and there were many tops that coordinated with it…….such as Silk Crepe de Chine Ts, shirts and peasant blouses. All of the pieces came in vivid colors such as fuchsia, purple, parrot green, azure and tobacco……all to be mixed and matched. There were also lizard belts and sandals in the colors to coordinate……It was a fun group…….Jumping ahead to 2015 I thought I would bring a similar version back for this transition group……..The SKORT, A265613, is made in a brand new fabric. It is 90% polyester and 10% spandex. I would describe the hand as a silky weighty georgette…..not see through at all. The surface is smooth and has a matte finish. It looks expensive, and I’m sure you will love it. The skirt is approx. 17-17 1/2 inches long for the xxs…….about the length of walking shorts. The construction of the skort is very clever……The leg actually becomes part of the skirt. It really is too difficult to describe, but it will be very clear when you get it home. The elastic waist band is also very special. It is approx 1 1/2 inches wide, and there are three rows of elastic stitching to give the skort a wonderful detail. There is also a six inch section of the front that is totally flat….sort of like boxers trunks. It gives the waist band a finished Designer look. If you choose to wear anything tucked in…it will look more finished than your typical elastic waist band. Another wonderful feature of the skort is…..there are ….POCKETS!……This is a very special piece….It can be as casual as you want, but it is certainly appropriate to wear to parties, dinner and even to work with flat sandals, wedges or skimmers…………………The “T” BLOUSE, A266302, is made in the same fabric as the skort so you can wear them together, or as a fabulous separate top. The blouse has a short DOLMAN sleeve and has cuffs that are tacked up so they won’t fall down. It has a curved shirt tail bottom, and is approx 27 inches long to the center front for the XS. It has a scoop neckline, and there is a HENLEY placket with four working buttons…..The color of the SKORT  and the T is called……….COFFEE BEAN……and pretty well matches other Coffee Bean items I have done before…………I love mixing COFFEE BEAN with WHITE, so I chose the WK SLEEVELESS MOCK, A233947, and the matching WHITE CLASSIC WK CARDIGAN, A233940, which is now on CLEARANCE. White is just one of the colors that looks wonderful with Coffee Bean…..Pastels and Brights all work well with this warm brown color…………I chose to accessorize the Coffee Bean with my new CHOCOLATE necklaces….the FALLING LEAVES NECKLACE & EARRING SET, and the CHOCOLATE DINGLE DANGLE NECKLACE coordinated with the CHOCOLATE DEMI HOOP…..All of the jewelry pieces are scheduled to be avail at the end of July and August……..I really love these new pieces, and I hope you do too……………………………………………………….enjoy………………………………….much Love………………………………….Louis

Love a skort. Just got back from a 5 day trip with some friends from undergrad at the Caymans and each of us had packed skorts for the trip. They are popular with my 43-45 yr old crowd. Can’t wait for these!

Dear Shan…..since your a skort expert and I have made very few in my career you have to let me know how you like it.

      1. Shan

        Will do.

    Louis,

Does the button placket go all the way down the blouse or only partway? Also are they necessary closures or decorative accents? I’m wondering how it will fit and drape over fuller bustlines.

    Thank you.

    1. louis dell'olio

It only goes part way. It’s a Henley style. The top is easy, but you should always check bust measurements.

      1. Rochelle

Thank you. Henley styles are definitely workable.

Wondering if the curry Casablanca cardigan & tank set would go with this skort in coffee bean? The back being covered in this skort makes all the difference. Thanks Louis, I am intrigued.

    1. louis dell'olio

Dear Ann…..I tried the curry with the coffee bean and they do work because they are both at the same end of the spectrum if you know what I mean…however you have to pull the colors together somehow. I would suggest a black tank to go with the cardigan and chocolate jewelry to pull the coffee bean up and that will bring the colors together….it’s takes a little more thought than just doing ivory with a black skort or all black, but it can work and look interesting.

      1. Ann

        Thank you for responding, Louis.

Was hoping and praying for return of the peasant blouse and THIS fits the bill. All options for me ! And the skort, can we possible “pin” it back as you see it on the right, just to give it a floatier feel ? Hope this makes sense…

    1. louis dell'olio

You can play with it and see how you like it…..there are no rules, however there is only so much you can pull up before it starts to tug on the attached short leg.

      1. Cela

Yes, but it doesn’t appear to be tugging here? Anyway, I love the flare in the pant and the hem on the panel looks like banding when pulled back which is pretty on the wrong side, too. Ciao, Louis.

        1. Louis Dell'Olio

No it’s not tugging but I have it pulled to the limit.

Louis will this top in Coffee Bean match the Coffee Bean pants/capris that went with A255182? I have those pants & am still kicking myself for not buying the matching top when it was available. Will this top go with those pants even though the fabrics are different?

    1. louis dell'olio

Dear Julie….they will blend….remember they are different fabrics dyed atv different mills in different years, so a match is highly unlikely, however, I do not have those samples to check. I did look at the skort next to the coffee bean WK sweaters and the colors look pretty good.

      1. Julie

Oh thank you so much Louis! I can’t wait to get this top! Will this be available in July?

        1. Julie

Oops, never mind, I just saw where you said late July/early Aug!

  6. designista

Surprised and thrilled with these introductions!!!!!!!!!!Is the skort then a pull-on?

  7. Saphira

Wow, I’m in for these in black and I’m very fussy about skorts..as in I never like them because the shorts show in back for a bad look. These will be perfect.

And the new necklaces, oh my! I want all three but the dangle is first on my list. Somehow it has a sense of humor…is that possible? lol

    1. louis dell'olio

Definitely has a sense of humor…..it’s the type of necklace little children are intrigued by…….

Louis- I am usually all about moss and black in Linea, but the chocolate is really speaking to me. Looks so fresh with white. I like the long placket on the top and the new fabric sounds interesting.
I remember that you said you would never do a skort. Never say never, LOL!!
I have a couple, I like them for summer wear and I will wear yours, too.

    1. Goldie76

I love the Linea Coffee Bean color. It is such a wonderful alternative for those who can no longer (or never could) wear black well. It is a definite dark. Ditto the Linea Dark Charcoal and Linea Navy.

      1. Goldie76

Dear me, I confused Linea Walnut (the deeply dark Linea blackish/brown) with Coffee Bean; nonetheless, Coffee Bean also serves as one of my go-to darkish shades that have replaced, for the most part, Black for me. It is lighter and airier than Walnut, with a bit of a red stain to it.

  9. NJlady

Looks very pretty. My question – is the back covered making it look more like a skirt or does back look like shorts?????

    1. louis dell'olio

The back is covered….I personally do not like the shorts to show…..so it looks like a double wrap skirt.

      1. Rochelle

I like that the shorts are hidden, too. So many skorts look awful from the back. I, too, dislike the name. It should be “skirted short” or something else, not that shorthand. Then again, I still refer to ‘sporks’ as runcible spoons.

  10. Melissa

Louis – every morning when I get on the computer, I check your blog for sneak peeks. Really gives me a little something to look forward to each day. 🙂 I never thought I’d wear a skort, but darnit, now that you made one I can’t wait to order it! Will probably get the shirt/skort in chocolate and black.

I have a question about the falling leaves jewelry but will post it in the Ask Louis section.
