“THE TOWN & COUNTRY CHECK BLAZER”

Sept group 13

This season you will see many, what are called, TOWN & COUNTRY BLAZERS…… in all kinds of checks, plaids and tweeds. What separates them is…1- The FABRIC, 2- the WORKMANSHIP and 3-the DETAILS. Though this jacket is primarily acrylic with 5% wool, it still feels like the finest wool from any well known mens haberdasher on …….. Saville Row, London………..The color of this blazer is called the …….BROWN COMBO….the style number is…….. A237554………… This blazer has all of the details a fine menswear jacket should have. The length to the from point is approx 29 inches for the XS….the back is shorter….because it doesn’t go straight across the front hips… it makes it easier for shorter women to wear. You can see in the photo how the sides are shorter than the….CUTAWAY FRONT…..which  is also very flattering. The collar is done in a contrast color and fabric. It is actually the same fabric as the new pant, which is the same fabric as your camel, caviar and black pants from Aug….therefore, the collar will match the new pants. Also, I have used that fabric for the……FRONT BOUND BUTTON HOLE….and the PIPING on the top of the working POCKET. The buttons were selected to work with each of the check colors…..in this case they look like NATURAL HORN BUTTONS.. There are shoulder pads in this jacket for a very TAILORED look. Each sleeve has THREE WORKING BUTTONS…….a detail you do NOT find on jackets at this price……The blazer is fully lined in satin…. as you would expect a jacket like this should be…The colors in the plaid, as you can see from the close up are, WALNUT, CAMEL, TAUPE, GOLDENROD and WINE. In the photos above I have paired the blazer with the BURGUNDY BLOUSE that comes with THE TIES…., but in this case without the ties. This color really brings out the wine in the check, which is very subtle…… The new CAMEL POSH KNIT V-NECK SWEATER, due in Oct., is worn as a layering piece…. PLEASE notice that the overlapping V-neck bands are made in very fine ribs…..just to add a little something….that gives the sweater a clean sportswear finish. I have also shown THREE DIFFERENT BOTTOMS……the WK WALNUT pencil skirt….the CAMEL PANT from the last show, and the new TROUSER in the BROWN. You really can wear anything under this blazer….from the Kate cotton shirt in WHITE or CHAMBRAY BLUE…a very menswear look…..to any number of Turtle necks….including the new POSH KNIT CAMEL TN…to the AUBERGINE WK V-Neck, the IVORY or WALNUT SHAWL COLLAR WK layered over the RASPBERRY PK MOCK NECK  etc. etc. etc….I could go on and on…..For MOST of you I know you will just wear it with a turtleneck or shirt, a great pair of fitted jeans a pair of loafers or riding boots…..a worn saddle shoulder bag and you’re ready to do what ever… on a crisp cool Saturday afternoon…..antiquing….tag sales…. flee markets …..what ever gives you a good reason to get dressed and go. I know you will get years of wear from this classic but anything but…..TOWN & COUNTRY BLAZER……………………………………………………….

The TROUSER is coming to you in a regular length, A237556….and a PETITE length A237557. The style of the pant is VERY SIMILAR to the SLIM leg , that is completely sold out, from the AUGUST show. It is the same fabric and basic fit as the CAMEL, CAVIAR and BLACK pant…..the difference is this pant has a TROUSER POCKET. With this T & C Blazer, I had to do a pant with a pocket….it is almost sacrilegious not to! The colors are BLUE and BROWN…..It is not quite as dark as my navy, but close….hence the name BLUE……and the BROWN is not quite as dark as my WALNUT….hence the name brown……but have no fear…all of the browns, walnuts, navies and blues work together!………………………………..scroll down………………………………………enjoy…..much Love……………………..Louis

    Dear Louis,

I love this jacket! It the body reminds me of one you did several years ago that was in a houndstooth…peach/espresso and dove grey/black. Is it the same fit? That is one of the most comfortable jackets ever.
    Yours,
    Celia

Dear Celia….I no longer have that sample so I can’t compare, but I would think they are similar. Certainly, what ever size you bought that in, I would think you would buy the same size….but if I remember correctly that jacket was SML and I believe these are numerical, but they aren’t in front of me to check that.

        Thanks Louis,

Have a wonderful afternoon. I believe it is the first day of fall! I and looking forward to the show.

        Yours,
        Celia

Louis, what a gorgeous houndstooth jacket! Houndstooth is my fav plaid. Ihave a beautful take on a hacking jacket in the browns, drk green, black wine and rust with two vents by your old partner in crime Donna Karan that I adore. So thrilled that your jacket, as exquisite, with your design aesthetic allows me to buy your jacket and not worry about duplication in my closet! This is perfection…this is Kate shirt, blue jeans, flat brown riding boots, with huge pale gray cashmere scarf at lunch on Saturday afternoon at the Butcher Shop on Tremont St.
    Thank You!

Now Louis, how did you know that I was about to ask you for a one button blazer?!!! This is wearable for me with the wine thread so I can get that color under my face. Around here, women actually wear their pearls with their hacking jackets when out riding during cubbing season before the formal hunt begins. I’m sure this jacket doesn’t have the double vent in the back (necessary for jumping), but it is very like riding jackets one sees this time of the year. But this one won’t be going to the barn with me :-). Be still my heart!!!

OMG, Louis, you are killing me! These are fabulous, as I am sure you know perfectly well.

I had this very plaid in a cashmere blend AK pencil-skirted suit in the 90s when I was a young working mom, & here it is back in a jacket now that I’m semi-retired. I still love it, but now I’ll be putting it together with that smashing new sienna chenille mesh floral top, jeans, & cowboy boots. And I’m pretty thrilled with the style of that PK V neck in camel, too. This fall’s collection is just fab.

    Hi Louis,
This is a must have for me, I have only one question, is the fit similar to the riding jacket with the contrast collar from 2 seasons ago? I needed a small in that one but I take an xs in all of your other jackets. I am afraid I will only get one chance so I want to make the right sizing choice. I just got the ottoman and caviar jackets and they both fit great in the xs, but this one being longer I wanted to ask about the fit.
    Thank You!
    Lianne

Dear Lianne, I forwarded your question to my “fit” department who could answer it better. This is what they said. First this jacket is numerically sized. She believes you are between a 2 and a 4. If you like your clothes very fitted get the 2 if you want it closer to what you have get the 4 which was closer in measurement to the old jacket. She did say the chest measurement on the new jacket is 1/2 inch bigger. Also if i remember correctly the old jacket either had 3 or 4 buttons and this is a single button which will be less constricting…..I hope this helps

      1. Lianne

Thank you so much! I will probably err on the side of caution and get the 4. BTW, every time I wear that red riding jacket I get compliments. I adore your jackets!

    Dear Louis,

I adore this jacket. I’ve been waiting for something exactly like it. I love almost everything about it, including the buttons! but the acrylic fabric worries me. I know it’s wonderful for being soft, but will it pill?

    1. Louis Dell'Olio

Dear Mary…like everything else….there are acrylics and there are acrylics….This fabric has gone through very stringent pilling tests and has passed QVC standards which have become more and more tough. So I can say without hesitation this fabric should be fine. Even a good wool will pill if it is abused….but again….this fabric has passed all of the tests………I didn’t say on my sneak peak, which I will add, is that this is a DRY CLEAN only garment just like any good mens jacket would be…..really the only time I would say to dry clean it is when you put it away for the summer….so once a year.

      1. Mary

Thank you for your quick response, and the reassuring information. This is a homerun – I’ve got the pants in Camel and will probably get the brown pants, too. What a beautiful, beautiful jacket.
